I've recently bought a 91 TSI AWD . I had the head rebuilt and an Exedy clutch kit put in it. I was just wondering if DSM's are worth putting money into. I've been on this sight a hundred times looking forums, pics, and mods. I like some of the things you guys say about these cars. I just want to know if you feel like it was worht it. Also can anyone tell me how much can I expect to spend to get this car at about 300 hp.

Bought my 1g after an accident I had in AZ...bought it knowing I was going to spend money into it, much like any investment.

Im happy to say I've never had one day of regret owning/working/running my 1g DSM... or any DSM for that matter.

Worth it? I sure think so.. course Im the kinda guy who loves robust engines with a huge aftermarket following.. its very rewarding to get into the car youve been working on and see what its become from stock (as with any car). I feel that I will never get rid of my DSM.. not after the blood, sweat and tears going into it now ;)...

Oh.. and nothing is better than the sound of a DSM with a turbo taunting the next racer! ;)

Depending on the condition of your car, it can be very cheap speed, or a very expensive money pit. If you do all your basic preventative and scheduled mods before performance, you will be alright.

You know, I'm sure most people here will tell you that they've asked themselves that question many times. I know I have.

But when I get in my car and feel the boost and the grip on the road, I always forget about my worries and just concentrate on how much I love driving my baby :talon:

Check out the Tuning guide for what'd get you to 300hp.

Diesel brings a good point... make sure you do take care of it.. and the money you spend to make it yours... will be that huge grin on your face when your driving your DSM. :)

basic mods will get you to 300hp exhaust manual boost controller intercooler piping...

you can spend a lil bit more and get a 16g some tuning/logging stuff and you can be up to 400hp.

and yes its well worth it when you are next to some old dude in his brand new $65,000 vette and you smoke him in a $2000 car :)
