starter relay

does anyone know how to test the starter relay for a 1g eclipse? chiltons says one way to do it, but the illustration is different from what they say in text. just wondering if someone got mixed up and put either the wrong drawing, or words down. i'm 50/50 on the starter relay being my problem with not starting... so if anyone can help out, it would be greatly appreciated.

What are the starter symptoms? Is it turning the engine? Just making a buzz or clunk? Or making no sound?

You also have to make sure the clutch switch is working properly- it dead-shorts the starter circuit to ground. If the starter isn't making a sound, it could be this as well.

If you have a 4-prong relay, the coil power is through contacts 1 & 3, a 5-prong is 1 & 2.

when i try to start the car, it just clicks once. the starter doesn't even crank. i checked the clutch position sensor first, and it should be working fine. i guess if the starter relay check out, then i need a new starter motor.

Also the contact at the started can get corroded and cause the exact same issue.

Bad contacts. My solution was push start ignition. Possible try lightly sanding down the contacts. Push start is a cheaper alternative to replacing the switch.
