will a 90 n/t 5spd ecu work in a 90 n/t auto?

hey guys i was wondering if a ecu makes a difference if its auto or 5spd. will it work and if so would there be ne problems?

i think the auto ecu controls the shifting of the trans. unless thats a separate unit, i cant remember but i dont think itll work, might though. cant ne 1 else help with this
