Ok guys doing a 5 speed swap and I purchased a shifter assembly and the shift cables at the local junk yard I got them out of a 91 awd and I'm trying to use them if possible in my fwd tsi can i do this? I'm currently almost all the all the way finished and i go to put the cables on and they seem longer? Also when I push the shifter when its in neutral it feels really stiff like something is binding up. Any suggestions? oO i have a 91 tsi fwd:ohdamn:

Your original post said you got them out of a 91 awd. But you are correct, if you got them out of a 90 they won't work.

Sorry for the confusion guys I got the cables and shifter out of a 90 not a 91 my bad. I will probably will just grab some out of a 92 thats out at the junk yard thank you again guys.:hellyeah:

I think they are all the same

Wrong. 90 cables have one that's a different length. The shifter assembly is different to.

Op if you can grab all the stuff from 91+. I've made a mix and match of 90 stuff work but was a pita to get right. Ended up just buying new 91+ cables and calling it a day.
