Rebuilding an AWD tranny with fwd parts

Ok so I drive a 96 AWD spyder and the tranny is a 95. Recently 2nd gear went out an I was wondering if it is possible to take the 2nd gear out of a 2g fwd and replace my 2nd gear. It's gunna cost me 500 bucks easy for a use AWD tranny I can get a fwd tranny for 50. Any one have any idea if this is possible? And what skill level would be needed to do it. I do all my work on all kinds of cars from Audi to ford so I'm up for the challenge. I talked to a guy at the local tranny shop and he said it may work he wasn't positive tho. Any input would be great.

No. The parts do not interchange. Maybe a hub and sleeve or two but gears? no. Different ratios.

No, you can't. All different parts. Have you taken the damaged unit apart and verified said damage? You need to see what's broken before you buy parts. Heck, some awd to awd parts won't swap. We need more info.

I thought I was clear. No you can't use fwd gears. They arent even the same ratio.....so they arent the same physical size even. If it wont go into gear the gear itself may be fine. You're shooting in the dark diagnosing and applying a solution when you dont even know the real problem yet. Hint. You're doing this because its cheap. Doesn't matter if its 50 $ or 5000 $. The right solution will be the right solution. You need to find the problem first then concern yourself on option to fix it and the potential cost.
