hey everyone I have had a string of bad luck today. First my 97 eclipse gsx dies while sitting at some lights. After it died it would not start again the brand new battery died so I took it back and got it replaced. Now the car starts just fine but as soon as I take my foot off of the gas it dies. It will start back up again and die I don't know what to do. It just happened today. Before I bought the car we drove it around for over 1hr and no problems what so ever but as soon as I buy it and take it out I get this problem please help

Do you have Link or custom ECU? Have you tried adjusting the TPS or throttle cable. Could also be a blockage in the throttle body idle air bypass (this allows air flow when throttle plate is closed)

you might have to turn out the biss screw. the screw is located towards the front of the throttle body .it might have a rubber plug blocking the screw . remove the plug and just try to turn out the screw a quarter of a turn and see what happens .

thanks guys however it is too late tonight to do it but i will be up first thing tomorrow to go take a look and try these things out.

nope no check engine light its either fuel, air, sensor, or something needs to be cleaned

backing out the idle screw or tightining the throttle cable may help you as mentioned above, but that may just be a crutch tell you can find out what the real problem is. maybe the last owner new of this problem and thats why they sold the car. maybe they can give you some info. if it happend suddenly, it may be somthing as simple as a hose falling off, or maybe the timing belt jumped. does the engine sound normal when you are gasing it? or does it sound like an impreza?

i made an appointment with the performance mechanic shop on my island i can only get in two weeks from now. So i will update what the problem was as soon as it is fixed. It just isn't drivable right now i do not want to drive it even if i could i do not want to damage anything further. So check back in 3 to 4 weeks to find out what the problem was
