I searched and found a lot of people remove the coolant oil cooler, the one i have is full of metal from the PO spun bearing, I ordered one off line but I think it might have the same issue but I also came across this one with out a cooler im assuming it came of a NA but some of the ports look different can I run this until I get a front facing housing? Any Issues? The last image is with it mocked up

Ok, Can i just block the coolant lines at the sources or do they need to be connected so the coolant passes thru?

The only problem with the N/A is there is no provisions for a an external oil cooler.

You can loop them or block them, it shouldn't matter. I have a '90 OFH with an external cooler, so I just blocked mine off.

Not just the N/A, but like you said, 1990's were the only year to have an external oil cooler.

That ofh looks like any other ofh from a 1991+ turbo DSM.

They are not that hard to clean. Take out the pressure relief valve and use plenty of hot soapy water, some "custom" bent bottle brushes and compressed air.

Yeah that's what I meant. 1990's were the only car to have an external oil cooler. All other 4G63 cars came with a coolant cooled ofh.

Gotcha:thumb: I assumed everyone new that almost all turbo models came with coolant cooled ofh, minus the 90.

Was there an issue with the external cooler that made them switch?

No problem, other than it probably cost more to produce, and it was another place for oil to leak.

probally to try and keep the price down or just being stupid like mitsubushi sometimes is. i prefer oil coolers to because i do alot of street driving/40 to 100 rolls and obnixous stuff like that. if i can help it, i will do anything to keep coolant away from oil because it the chance of a failure; the coolant mixed with oil will turn to a brown goo and the oil mixed with oil will ruin your bearings in the bottom end.

Is it just me or does the OP's picture look like the bolt pattern are not the same.

I want to say, I'd have to double check but 6&7 Bolt OFH I believe have a different bolt pattern for the OFH. But that one doesn't look the same.

6 bolt and 7 bolt OFhousings are certainly not interchangeable. As long as his N/A came from a 6bolt n/a i should bolt up to a 6 bolt turbo block. His profile claims he has a 6bolt swap.

But you are right, the pattern does look a little difference. Not only that, but the mating surface is completely different. OP, you might want to make sure that's not out of a 7bolt N/A

Thanks for the help guys, I do have a 6 bolt, The housing does have the 4 bolt holes line up and the new gasket is on here is a full size picture of it just setting on but not tightened, If it was a 7 bolt would it even be able to bolt up like this or is it just the plumbing different?

It appears the turbo OFH would not bolt up due to the bolt pattern being different, the NT is the correct one anyways.

The only difference is the bolt pattern which one will not bolt on, If all 4 bolts line up, then that's the right one.

Looks like you are all set.:thumb:
