Transmission Replacement Step by Step?

I cant find a good sticky or tutorial on this.

My Car has been sitting for too long because I can't count on any other shade tree mech to move their ass.

I Have the trans already but this especially sucks because the car it came from is a '92.5 so it COULD have the 23 spline shaft necessary for my 93 or maybe it could not. I won't know until I pick up the crate (and my dirty car) from the mechanic too busy ooor whatever to get to it himself.

DO I really need a cherry picker?

What if any seals should I think about checking or replacing?

Just what order do I take things apart and put them back together?

I have to start truly becoming a master of my car and these projects, and this is what lies in my path.

As long as it came from '92 it should have the 23 splines shaft.
As for the seals I would definitely change the seals on the input shaft and output shaft just to avoid pulling the tranny all over again. It will cost you no more than 20 bucks.
The rest of the seals you can change with the tranny on the car.

Yeah, Jafro videos are awesome!

I would also do the axle seals while you are there too. Yes you can do it with the tranny in place, but a lot easier to do with the transmission out.

91 up transmissions are 23 spline. Only 90 is 22. The only other completely non compatible issues in a US spec transmission are the 97 up units are a different final drive ratio and would need the 97 tcase to go with it. Of course 2g cases are slightly different but they will bolt up to a 1g car.

If the t'case shaft is not the one you need there pretty easy to swap out, just take the outter case off then pull the viscus coupler off and make sure you dont lose the little retaining ball that sits int he grove of the shaft.

I had to wing it for my tranny pull. Haynes manual didnt say shit, lol. I ended up pulling the crossmember and rear mount and then tilting the motor to get the trans out from the bottom.
