Hello guys I am still very new the world of DSM.

I have a 1991 Eclipse GSX I got for $1500 not running (only needed spark plugs and a cleaning) and I don't know much about the car still. It is running a no name 16g because the 14b blew up on the last owner and he put the crap 16g on. It had a JDM FMIC but I took it off because it was beat to sh*t and wasn't needed with my boosts levels, not to mention it was an eye sore.

So everything is stock but the turbo and the ECU which I just noticed. It appears to be a Motoguys ECU, and was looking to get some feedback on the company.

I have a full tbe ready to go on and am going to install a new air intake and FMIC, as well as turning up the boost. The car is a gas guzzler, and needs a tuning. So I am looking for some feedback on the Motoguys ECU as well as some help on whether or not the ECU I have will be okay to tune with.

Will I need a chip, is my ECU chipable and whatnot? I know I said a lot, but what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.:D

The Motoguys ECU most likely isn't a EPROM so you would need to send it to ECMTuning to have it converted in order to get DSMLink v3 to tune with. But if you want you can get a SAFC and a datalogger instead. Also a wideband O2 if you don't have one already.

Would it be cheaper to just buy a new ECU? If so, what ECU do you guys recommend?

You could get an EPROM ECU or have yours converted to an EPROM for $135. The Motoguys Garage ECUs are just used/repaired ECUs there's nothing different/special about them.

Have you opened it to confirm if its an EPROM or not?

But will taking the cords out mess anything up. Will i need to disconnect the battery so its impossible to fry something.

Unhook the negative cable on the battery, remove the bolts holding the ecu in the car, un hook the 3 plugs on the ecu and pull it out. From there take the 4 Phillips head screws out that hold the cover on.

I have a Motoguys Garage ECU in my 1992. It's a 1990 EPROM ECU though. It's also a socketed EPROM.

I don't like the repair work on back of board but have no issue with it, but with it being socketed I may just order the DSMLink kit. Or send it in for ECMTuning's awesome magic to be done to it. Cars going to be up on jacks for little over a month in a few weeks. Got a bunch of new things for my toy. Tires, suspension, DSMLink, wideband, timing belt, BSE, new studs and hardware for exhaust and head, upper engine gaskets, new hoses, belts, fluids.

Going to be fun.

Wish i could do that kind of stuff to my car, but is a dd and i cant go without it for more than a couple days, at most. So is there anything i need to worry about when pulling the ecu. I have no stereo in my car, it looks pretty simple. Nevermind, thanks bryanwheat.

Here are some pictures of the ECU open. See what you think.

Can someone please tell me whether or not this ECU is chipped, chippable, or just the stock ECU.

It's a non EPROM ECU. It is chipable but you would have to send in the ECU to have it converted. If you email or even check out ecmlink.com you can get the price for the conversion. If you get DSMLink while it's in they discount the conversion. Or you can send it in for a refreshing and get the conversion done. And in the future you just need to buy the DSMLink package and can install it yourself.

Long answer short. Yes, you have a plain ECU. Yes it is chipable (with conversion). No it isn't currently chipped.
