overfilled gas tank??

In my 96 talon base model I went down to the gas station and decided to fill my tank full for the first time so I let the gun run until it stopped itself and as soon as it did gas was spewing out from underneth the car about in the middle
Not at the fuel pump, filter, or regulator it looks like a spot were the bolts hold up the tank like a gasket went bad, is there something that seals the tank, something I can do to seal it
It leaked until about 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank was left

My buddies car did this because he broke off a couple of the studs holding on the plate that the gasket goes on.

Check if the filler tube is cracked or if is leaking out of there somewhere. I'm not sure if DSM's have a gasket there between the filler tube and the tank but I would assume so. That would be a likely leak spot.

Mine also did this. I drained the tank(still very full), took the tank off, and inspected it. I could not find where it leaked from and put it back on. All the bolts were nice and tight and it was sealed up so I didn't figure out the problem. Hasn't leaked again yet but I haven't filled it back up either.

I went to see at oreillys and a gasket does not exist for my car the bolts seem to be tight on there so i got some gas tank repair putty and i guess ill just smother it in that at the stud and see if it fixes it and also never fill my tank up all the way for a while
Thanks for the tips

Good luck with that. Hopefully your car doesn't blow up from putting a bandaid on a problem that should most defiantly be fixed properly.

Did you contact the dealership and ask if they carry the gasket?

Maybe it's time to upgrade to a fuel cell

May sound stupid but my 1g all of a sudden started leaking gas everywhere! I got underneath it and the filler tube where it connects to the actual tank wasn't tight enough to the tank. The clamp literally broke and gas just poured out til about 3/4 or maybe even 1/2. Not sure if it was any of the clamps anywhere or not
