My first boost leak awwwwww
So i turned up the big PTE and did a pull. At about 30psi it felt like fuel cut. Like i literally slammed on the brakes. I was like, oh shit, another 500 dollar problem, what is it now. Did a 2nd gear pull and noticed slow spool and a whooshing sound. I literaly had no idea a boost leak felt so bad! Really dramatic results.
I realized it quickly after i heard it and found my IM to BOV line popped off. Totally pointless story, but to anyone who doubts boost leaks, they have a profound effect and feel like other problems. This car is averaging about 11 bucks a mile so far so i expected the worse lmao. Lucky me

Yea dude boost leaks can be harsh, my first boost leak the car bucked liked I kept repeatedly slaming on the breaks, and I didn't know what the hell happened, I thought I had just destroyed the car.

Agreed boost leak tests are very important. Newbies that read this need to look into making a boost leak tester and use it. Even if you don't think you have a boost leak sometimes you will be very surprized what kind of leaks you have, even if the car is driving normal.

I just did a boost leak test last night because I felt the spool was pretty slow. I found 2 very large leaks on compressor housing, I was dumbass and removed the internal gate to go external and didn't put the 2 wastegate bolts back in the empty holes, for some reason I didn't think those bolt holes went all the way in, wow was I wrong!
To add to that I put the bolts back in and retested and air actually started leaking from the bolts threw the threads, I had to pipe tape them to get rid of it completely.

I'm a fan of hair spray then cutting off the coupler at a later date.
Makes boost leaks much less common but they can still happen.

Well, turns out i may have fixed that one but now the mafs all crazy. I think i have a preturbo-postmaf vac leak. My idle hz is way down and now during pulls my mafcomps are ALL low like really low. Its going lean in other words. That can only be caused by a preturbo leak. Post turbo and i would have experienced overly rich boost conditions. , this car is "drive 5 miles, work 2 hours".
It was a rescue dsm though. It wasnt in good shape when i got it and ive pretty much replaced every damn part on it.
And to be fair ive gotten about 1500 miles out of it so far at a cost of around 11k, haha.

Found it. Line from fpr solenoid to afpr had blown open. Thus causing bad maf readings AND lean under boost cause the afpr was not raising fuel pressure.
