crankwalked??? I THINK NO !!

Ive rebuild several dsm motors and had a guy dropped off a 97 gst for a engine. He just wanted a stock 7bolt put back in it,I rebuilt a core and its ready for drop in,when he bought the car he was told it was crankwalked. I tried turning the old motor over with the 1/2" ratchet and it would go half the rotation and stop then the same backwards. Didnt seem crankwalked but when ahead pulled it. I decided to go ahead and pull the parts off it for my stock pile and found a pretty bad explosion to say the least .

Never seen this happen before but it seared the keyway on the crank and spun the timing gear.

needless to say I dont got too many parts for my stock pile lol

Im sure you guys have seen worse but looks bad to me

btw is there a pic section on here for when 4g63's go bad

The car is completely stock, I think the previous owner like to dogg the crap out of it. It had to be at a pretty high rpm when it seared the keyway. Something loosened up that crank bolt

Looks like he maybe over reved it. Like a missed shift or something. But yes that would def. stop the engine from rotating! WOW!

Yikes, those are some good pictures. Those valves must have been hating life before they broke in half, or I should say the crank key. 1 little key goes out and the whole motor ends up toast. =(
