I'm running a 60-1 turbo, FIC 650cc injectors, 255 pump, GM 3.5in MAS and MAFT. the only tuning i have right now is the maft and even that i havent done much with aside from just getting it to run ok. I don't have a wideband (i usually don't do my own tuning so never found a need). If i get a custom chip, then do i still have to tune the MAFT or do i set it to the injector size and 0 everthing else out? Just curious if the tune comes on the chip and your done or what? Also, on a custom chip do they need to know boost you intend to run or what? Just looking for opinions i guess. I'm about to say screw it and buy another AEM EMS and pay my tuner to dial it in but i figured i'd give this a shot first.

I actually have a similar set up on my talon and the chip worked wonders. The car runs great you just let them know what modifications you have and they send a chip with your specifications. I just have my MAFT set to 0. Of course if you want to try and make more power you will have to do some fine tuning. I do that with a SAFC and data logging software.

... another AEM EMS ...

Curious about this - did you have one fail?

On your question, I would recommend a custom chip, to go along with your translator. Mine is that way, and the chip does everything it is supposed to.

Who made your chip for you?

No i didn't have one fail, I had one in my other car. This is a new car and a new setup. So what about the boost? is the chip tuned specific or?

My chip is not specific to any particular boost level. It is specific to injector size (850cc), engine compression ratio (7.8), target air/fuel ratio (11 to 1), fuel pressure (43.5 psi), fuel octane (92), and I think that's about it although there are a bunch of other features designed into it.

The boost target is actually a very good question and it is one I thought would have to be taken into account. But the way it was explained to me by both Jeff Oberholtzer (who made the chip) and Tom Collins (ecu+ creator) this is one of the beauties of sticking with a MAF instead of going speed-density. You can change mods quite a bit (cams, boost level and so-on), and you will only need a slight tweak from your piggyback device (ecu+ in my case) if anything. The chip has an expanded load map (beyond stock) and it will keep the high-load A/F around the target value until you run out of injector. If you need small tweaks to your target a/f you can tweak with your piggyback up to a point, or send the chip back in for a revised flash. Wish DSMchips was still doing business. Jeff did a great job. I'm still running my ecu+ with the fuel and ignition timing zeroed out. The a/f I measure with my LC-1 during WOT is very close to 11 to 1 (the chip target value). Even though DSMchips is out of business, the page that shows the basic chip features is still up:

MY1GDSM made my chip and I love it.

Thanks for that info 1g and Seamus. I looked him up and it looks like good stuff to me.
