Hi I just bought a 98 Eclipse turbo. I'm new to these vehicles and this is my first turbo, to give you an idea of my experience level with these cars. I was poking around at it and I saw what I presume are the oil lines running to/from the turbo. They are rubber hoses that appear to be at least partially creased and restricted, which I take to be not a good thing. I have put a picture below. I'm not sure how clear it will be from the picture. So my questions are...am I right that these are the oil lines? If so how are they supposed to look? Were they originally all metal and someone cut them and used rubber to reconnect, or did they always have rubber lines and these have just gotten crimped somehow?

I have no idea how long they've been this way before I bought it. It makes me a little nervous about the possible condition of the turbo.

That is a shady 14b/16g install. In case you didn't notice, that's not the stock turbo. When swapping in a 14b/16g you have to modify the oil return and water lines. Using rubber hose to connect the water lines is no big deal, but one of yours is majorly kinked (the one on the left). The one on the right is the oil return. The stock 2g return won't reach the turbo so it has to be modified. Yours doesn't look too bad minus the giant kink in it. Here's one example of what the return line should look like when you use hose for the return.

I would replace the water hose (left) and try to straighten out the oil return.

Thank you for the information. I did not know that is not the stock turbo. When I bought it I was told the intake and exhaust piping were upgraded, but that's all. I'm trying to get a handle on what exactly has been modified and is non-stock so I know what I'm dealing with.

I'll have to see what I can do with those rubber lines. It looks to me like if I replace them with new ones those will just kink up too, so I'll have to bend the metal lines or something if I want to avoid the problem. Hopefully I can get it figured out soon. Those make me nervous about driving the car.

I would definatly fix those hoses. The hose out the front is the water line, and the line on the bottom is the oil return. Fix them both, but especially the oil return, as it can and most likely will blow your oil seals from lack of oil flow.
