I am currently re doing the rtv on my oil pan and I'm in the process of cleaning it all off the pan and the block. Once i am done with that i know i need to use grey rtv or hondabond or gasket maker but where am i supposed to put this bead. There is a valley in the center of the rails on the oil pan i take it that is where it goes??? Not sure if it goes there or along the inside and outside lips of the pan. The old pan had it on the inside and outside and wanted to make sure i knew the proper way its supposed to go on. Lets hear what you all have to say so i can get it done tomorrow! Thanks in advance.

Make sure both surfaces are completely clean of the old gasket and free of any oil. Don't just wipe it with a paper towel and call it good. It needs to be cleaned with brake clean, acetone, paint thinner or something that will evaporate quick. The versa-chem mega gray works the best from what I've found. The best way I've found to apply it is to put a small bead all the way around than take your finger and spread it out on the rail. Just make sure that there is a good layer all the way around than bolt it on immediately. IT will squish out and not bond well to the pan and block if you let it set up at all.

if i need to drive the car immediately i use "1 minute gasket" by Right stuff, if not just regular Right stuff.
I Clean both surfaces and apply thick layer on the pan and thin layer on the block and smooth it with my finger. I wait about 5 min and mount the pan with very light pressure. Then put the bolts on and tighten then just a couple of threads, if you see rtv squishing out then its too much. Then i wait 30min to an hour, depending on weather, and then tighten to specs - i think it was 9 pounds

you want all the excess rtv to squeeze out. You just want a film between the pan and block, just enough to seal it.

Alright so i take it clean the pan with wire brush and sand paper then use brake cleaner and get all the crap off. Then put a bead on the pan all the way around and kind of spread it around and do the same on the block. Then let it sit for a few minutes and put it back on?? Just making sure i understand this 100%

i put the rtv nice and thick and then let it sit(dry) for some time so when i tighten the bolts it doesnt squeeze out

No, do not put it on both surfaces, only one. Don't just spray the pan surface with brake clean. Take a paper towel, fold it a few times, spray it with brake clean and wipe it down until it is oil free. Than apply it to one surface, either will work, put the pan on, and torque to spec.

Clean both surfaces, spread the "Ultra Black RTV" all around the pan so its nice and even, let it sit for 10min, Then bolt it up.

Have done 50+ oil pans this way with no problems whatsoever.
