I'm replacing clutch in my FWD 97 tsi, what is the best fluid to run in there? Car is pushing near 300.

A lot of people use synchromesh. I've used it, royal purple, and Mobil 1 (currently using it) I honestly haven't noticed a difference.

I also use the OEM Mitsu fluid for the Evo MR from Jacks. Great stuff.

^^Good advice above, most the fluids listed here are good. Do some searching and you'll find reviews for each and from there, you'll be able to make up your mind.

If you bothered to search you would find that a cheaper solution is to get penzoil syncromesh which is $7.69 a Qt vs $15 for MT-90 which I normally get but since I am swaping a tranny I'm gonna go the cheap route the first time just incase the tranny is shot. People have used syncromesh without any problems.

I actually used Pennzoil syncromesh in my stock tranny before I got the TRE and had no issues. Syncromesh is a good product and cost effective.

Synchromesh is too thin for use in DSM trans. If you speak to Jon at TRE he too will advice against synchromesh. He recommends Redline.
I used Mobil and sucked. Seems to "die" quick. Trans gets notchy quick, 2-3 months. I prefer AMS Oil GL-4. Now I'm going to mix AMS GL-4 and REdline Light weight.

I heard from a bird that the lightweight is not exactly make for the transmission. Im pretty sure John at TRE told me not to use the lightweight but rather use the MT-90 and mix in one MTL if wanted.

Shockproof is not GL-4 rated, it is intended for differentials/transfercases. I have never tried MTL or MT-90. This next fluid change will be the first time I will try AMS oil and Redline lighweight. I change my fluids 2x a year anyways.

Good info, thanks to all of you. What would be a good fluid to run that I can get locally, like from local napa, pep boys and such? I can't wait long so I can't order that stuff over the net.

Its what I use for trannys, even had a problem, I love both, the 75w85 is the better of the two, but both will work.:thumb:

In short - Whatever you want. Everyone has their own preference and you'll never get a correct answer on oil choices.

I hear spit works fairly well as lubrication. This is from experience.

Really? I've had mine in my car for about 16,000 miles now and it still shifts smooth as the day I got it back from Lucas. I'm probably going to change it sometime this week just to play safe. I'd rather spend the few dollars for the bottle than not change it.
