Montreal,
I have a 1g AWD for which I've installed 2g big brake calipers in front, new calipers in the rear, new pads and stainless lines all around. I have taken the master cylinder apart and inspected it and it looks perfect. I have bled the system multiple times, but the pedal still feels mushy and has trouble locking the wheels. The rear calipers don't seem to be doing much at all. The car had ABS but it was removed by the previous owner and I'm wondering if this may be part of my problem. I've drawn a diagram in paint to try to explain how the lines are routed.

-The line coming off the front port of the master cylinder goes to the passenger side of the engine bay then tees off. One line goes to the passenger wheel and one line comes all the way back to the drivers wheel.

-The line from the rear port tees off into each lower port on the proportioning valve. The front outputs are blocked, and the 2 upper ports from the proportioning valve go to the rear wheels.

I don't know if the proportioning valve or master cylinder is from an abs model or not (any way to check this?). The master cylinder has a 1" bore.

Can anyone help me out and tell me if this is normal or if there's anything I should try to improve my braking?

EDIT: I also have a spare master cylinder from my old FWD non ABS car which has a 7/8 bore. Should I try putting that one on?

That is definitely not the stock brake line routing. The reason for this is because whoever removed the ABS did not get a new portioning valve for a NON ABS system. The portioning valve should have two more ports for brake lines.

If you have upgrade your brakes are all you should look into the 1" MC that come in DSMs. I have one in my 1g, it should have come stock in the later years, like your 93. If you put a small bore size in, 7/8, you are going to get a musher pedal feel, especially since you increase the clapping surface area and the amount of fluid that needs to travel.

the routing should be like this:

Like agentorange said the bottom ports go to the front wheels, top to the rear. There should not be any T-fittings anywhere in-line with the brakes.
