I searched this, but the search engine eliminated a few of the words in my search so I keep getting hundreds of unrelated posts. I am in the process of building a 6 bolt for my 1993 Talon, which was a 7 bolt.

My question is, will my trans bolt up or will it need swapped out too? Do I need a new flexplate? Does anyone here know of a thread or article that already exists for this subject? I don't mind reading, but filtering through all that other stuff was going to be nearly impossible.

I would rather get everything done before I attempt to do this, so I don't have to do it multiple times.

I feel this is a very silly question. If you think about all you have read, a 6bolt and a 7bolt are both still 4G63's. The block is going to be the same reguardless.

As far as the flexplate or flywheel is concerned, make sure you got a 6bolt one obviously.

Seriously, have you actually read thru the FAQ yet?

well, I have a 1gb, but this write up has a good bit of info on that stuff too. My main concern was that it would be like some of the old school fords and dodges, where if you swap between years, you have to swap both out. Not every manufacturer out there makes their blocks the same every year, but they still call it the same motor. Often, it becomes quite the task just making things fit up. And I don't mind if I have to buy a new trans anyway, I just would rather know it ahead of time, rather than when I have the engine swinging from a chain.

I truly appreciate your help.

That link doesn't help a great deal when swapping a 6-bolt into a 7-bolt 1G. When it comes to mounting and electronics (the main issues running any 1G engine in a 2G car), 91-94 1Gs are so similar that the 6-bolt in a 2G write-up is really no help at all.

The main issue is whether or not you can use a 6-bolt engine/flex plate with a 7-bolt auto transmission. Doing this on a 2G would require you use Kiggly Racing's Adapter Flex Plate Kit; just the flex plate can be found here: Kiggly Racing 6-bolt Flex Plate. Here's about the only thread I find that is closely related to what you are wanting to do, and according to him, all you need is the 6-bolt flex plate, the crankshaft bushing, and the two adapter plates on either side of the flex plate: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/237983-1g-7bolt-shortblock-swap.html. Here's another thread that may or may not touch on the issue since the original poster never confirmed one way or the other: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/359444-7-bolt-engine-6-bolt-trans-help.html.

I'm sure this isn't uncharted territory, but nothing I can find in hundreds of threads documents this issue any better than those last two links I provided.

This is the only place I could find with any real info... I'm doing the exact opposite. I found a running 7bolt turbo motor from a 1993 Eclipse 5speed. It's a complete long block, does have the flywheel, I will attach the clutch pack from my 6bolt flywheel. Any known issues with this so-called "swap". It's going into my 1990 GSX. The 90 GSX is a 5speed just to clarify that.

From what I can gather, it's a plug and play drop, minus the fact I'm looking for a 1990 Turbo ECU, and the CPS (Cam) for the 1990 Wire setup. Other than that, is there anything else I need to be aware of?

As long as you plan to use all other electronics (namely, coil pack, power transistor unit, throttle body sensors, and CAS as you stated) along with the ECU from the 1990, you are good to go. The 1990 coil pack is a square, 4-wire plug as opposed to the 1991+ triangle, 3-wire plug. The PTU on a 1990 is 6 wires rather than 8 wires for the 1991+. You can read this about the throttle body to find a way around that one. Hopefully that leads you in the right direction, again. :thumb:

So I'll use my 90 Coil pack and PTU, from what I read on the TB, I'll just use the one currently on the motor I'm purchasing. (The 93 Turbo motor)

Making sure I have that right :thumb:

It would be easiest to use a '90 throttle body if you have one. But yes, you can use the '93 TB if you want and you swap the fuel rails as pointed out in the link above.

Would anyone in the Oklahoma area, or southern Kansas area happen to have a 1990 CAS (Cam)? Motor is in the car, and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask so maybe I can fire this thing up today :D, and yes I'll pay for it LOL.

Old thread but only thing I could find about a 6bolt in a 1g as opposed to a 2g.

Ive done the swap: but have been having some issues with random uh.. boggyness ? I dont feel misfire is the right word because its not misfiring, but during driving It will randomly bog down for a second or two and go back to driving normal. I notice this by feeling the car lose power at no change in throttle, and also exhaust tone changes from healthy tone to a 'BRRRRR" (rolling that R like your speaking spanish) type sound. Sounds like my car has the craps.

Ive read the threads and posts on a 6bolt swap in a 2g, but I havent been able to find a solid link for a proper swap in a 1g.

I assumed because it was in a 1g, not a 2g - it wouldnt be necesary for me to change all the electronics such as CAS, TB Sensors, transistor pack, ecu, etc. but I am since having 2nd thoughts as my car has been running like an unstable horse.

Im running it n/t for now so theres no boost leaks obviously, everything is right and tight and good to go- its just not going smoothly. I feel like it has no power, heck my girlfriends neon feels like it has more balls than my eclipse.
