My Buschur 3" downpipe...Dissapointing

Just recieved my 3" downpipe from Buschur Racing in the mail, and all i can say is....damn, this cost $309?!? First off on the Buschur website there is no picture. that alone is suspect in this day and age, from a vendor of their reputation. Second, there is a very short description of the piece on the Buschur website, consisting of "stainless with flex" I ASSUME this to mean the piping is stainless, and includes a flex section. Well, the piece consists of a section of 3" bent ss pipe welded to a 2.5" ss elbow, welded to a flange. NO flex section, NO rear catalytic converter flange. I look at this piece and go "damn, i could have had that done by any exhaust shop for much much cheaper." so you are saying "yea but the welds are Buschur welds!" The welds are in fact inconsistent, and oxidized. So no, there's no bonus points there. There is also a visable step just inside the flange where it is welded, not smoothed or ported at all. Am i expecting too much? for $300 should i get a flex section and nicer welds? maybe even a flange for the catalytic converter? Or is Buschur relying on the pulling power of his name at this point, rather than the quality of his dsm pieces? will post pictures asap

That's pretty crappy, I'd call and ask about it.

You could have got a downpipe with both flanges and a flex section all together for about $125 from punishment racing.

My buschur DP has the flex section and only drops to 2.5" right before the flange for the o2 housing. Maybe the AWD ones are made differently?

They don't have a flange on the end because they expect it to be a clamp type connector into the the midpipe.

As for their welds, i've had my issues with them (but not on exhaust pipes)

Just about every downpipe has a 2.5" flange.

The punishment DP narrows to 2.5" at the flange, just like the Buschur.

that is correct. from the 02 houseing it is 2.5, but it immediately turns into 3''. most down pipes are 3' after flex pipe.

It is funny how they do not have a picture of their product. The Buschur racing exhaust systems on STM dont have pictures either. STM has pictures of all their products.

You can also look into using RRE downpipes. I have used one for 2 years now on my 1g and I have no complaints. Bolts right up to my apexi n-1 catback, no mods at all.

I think it depends on the brand. As stated above, I am running the RRE downpipe and it is 2.5 from the o2 housing to the flex then 3" inches after. Some downpipes, such as megan and the punishment one, are 3 inches from about an inch below the flange for the o2 housing. The downpipe expands to 2 inches before the flex section. heres a link to the punishment one, you can see how it expands before the flex section to 3 inches(or close to 3 inches). Also I think the Buschur one is designed like that.

I turned away from buscher when I heard they were turning DSM'ers away because they were "tired of working on them". Not to mention when I took a visit because i use the same machinist he does and was treated VERY poorly by dave himself.

But I say post up a pic of your DP so people who are thinking of ordering one can atleast get a glimpse of it.

Same here...been running a Megan DP and a 3" cat back from E-bay, all for around $300. I have no interest in using anything mechanical from Ebay on my car, but when it comes to pipes and such, you'll save a lot of $$ on good stuff.
