Green top CAS necessary for 6 bolt swap?

Is it necessary for me to use a 1G CAS with my 6 bolt swap or can I just use the 2G sensors? I currently have the green top installed but I took it out for cleaning and don't have a timing light to get everything working smoothly again.
 
Not necessary, no. But you are better off getting a timing light and resetting the ignition timing with your 1G CAS then trying to use 2G sensors.

With the majority of 6-bolt swaps, the 1G CAS is used because it (alone) provides the necessary signals to the 2G ECU whereas an original 2G engine uses both a camshaft sensor and a crankshaft sensor. That means you would be required to purchase a 6-bolt front cover that has provisions for a crank sensor, modify your 7-bolt front cover to fit the 6-bolt block, or purchase a 6-bolt crank trigger sensor from Kiggly. Without any of those, you lack one of the necessary signals for the engine to run and it won't run; on an original '97 engine, disconnecting the crank sensor makes the ECU cut fuel and spark.

Additionally, you would have to revert back to your 2G cam sensor, though having a '97 makes that only a minor problem. All things considered, finding a timing light is a much wiser decision.

I could have sworn you cant use the 2g cam/crank sensor setup with a 6 bolt. I believe the plate in between the crank and balence shaft sprokets hits the front case housing.
