Is there a difference between 95 ECU and a 97 ECU ?

to answer your question yes there are differences between 95 and 97 97 and 98 i dont think there are

The 98 and 99 ECUs are usually the plastic cased flashable models. They changed the location of the cam sensor between 96 and 97 and the ECU programming reflects that. Swapping them requires you to change the spark plug wires. The 98/99 ECUs should work fine in 97 and up cars without changing the plug wires. There are threads here on swapping 2G ECUs in various mixes. The more common is running a EPROM 95 ECU in the later cars followed by putting the 98/99 ECUs in the earlier cars or running a EVO ECU in either.

95 is the only 2g eprom ecu. 96 is programmed for the cas signal read differently since the 95&96 cas is behind the intake cam gear. 97-99 are programmed the same within those years but I think there is a hardware difference since you can only flash 98&99 ecus' from what I remember. Im not 100% on the 97-99 stuff though. But for compatability on a stock car 95&96 are interchangeable w/o any worries and 97-99 are interchangeable w/o any worries.
