WHAT WOULD happen if you weld the block to the head etc?
SORRY FOR THE STUPID QUESTION just was wondering:hmm:

If you can weld aluminum to pot metal cast iron, then go on right ahead.

Its like trying to get oil to dissolve in water. You have better luck welding yourself to a glass window using a magnifying glass as s source of heat.

Well... you can buy an aluminum engine block... which would resolve the issue of mating pig iron with aluminum. Welding the two together would give you an indefinite seal...the problem is, the places where you need the seal aren't just around the outside of the head...you'd have to find a way to mig weld the seam around the inside of the cylinder as well, otherwise it would just lose compression into the other cylinders...

P.S. machined billet aluminum engine blocks are between $8000.00 and $10,000.00 USD
you can find one here http://www.bulletcylinderheads.com.au/billetblocks.php

It's alright man, without asking you would never know.
1. Aluminum to Iron will not weld together
2. Usually drag racers weld the head to the block strictly for drag racing. They also ditch the water cooled system for less weight, and rely on air cooled systems, usually plugging their water jackets. Also, they will have no chance of blowing a head gasket(duh, haha), and to usually prevent headlift. These motors will last and give it their ALL in an intense quarter mile race, but usually those types of motors don't last long.

can I have your VR-4 before you ruin it?

NO WAY IN HELL IS THat MY GVR4'S FATE.....:notgood::nono:(SHES ALREADY IN REHAB)

il find me a 1g!!!:thumb::sneaky:

and lookIng up pratt & whitney

and was just wondering cause i thought it would be an ultimate seal
BUT if you do blow something where the head gasket was wouldent it try and push threw the top if it had no escape?
and its already been done!?!?

if you could weld it completely and properly it should work just fine, im fairly sure the reason why you have a head and a block is for mantanice and cost reasons and its a lot easier to make the combustion chamber in two pieces rather than painting the inside of an egg without cracking it. Headstuds and gaskets are to, pretty much, make the block and head one. But if you did have a situation where a hg would blow and your head and block was welded, the pressure will escape somewhere in probably a more destructive matter.

Good to know

What if you used Aluminide for the head and block(ALUMINUM)
since it bonds to Aluminum.

ALL IN ALL THIS WAS JUST A BACK OFF THE HEAD THOUGHT NOTHING I WOULD DO UNLESS IT WAS A GREAT IDEA

It's not really that dumb of a question. Why are you asking? FYI old airplane engines have 1 piece head and cylinders. Meaning the head and cylinder come off the crankcase as a unit. Look up pratt&whitney

You are correct, Pratt & Whitney is here in my city (lethbridge) and my buddies dad works there and we used to go check things out often and that was one thing I noticed, pretty interesting actually

Sorry to inform you, the 4g63 block is CAST IRON. not "(ALUMINUM)" Go put a magnet to your block, last I checked, Aluminum wasn't magnetic, and ferrous materials (containing iron) is magnetic.

Off subject here but if aluminum is exposed to a strong concentrated magnetic field for long enough it will begin to gain some magnetic properties. I am a welder and I spot weld with a spotwelder at work alot and one of our aluminum jigs we use alot has began to have a slight magnetic pull LOL. Studying metallurgy in college always said differently. Not that it matters though just throwing it out there

I am fairly sure that you would create an engine that would be one step closer to a viable time machine.

Exactly i just need jigawatts

that information on Pratt & Whitney, and drag racers is great thanks.

Thats very interesting. I bet theres money to be made studying that.
