Yes I did you the search button, I use it everyday but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for so I decided to make a thread to get the answer straight forward.

I know I can use the openport 2.0 cable to use EvoScan and ECUflash/Ceddymods, but I was wondering if the 1.3U 16pin cord would do both things as well that is from the Evoscan website.

EvoScan 1.3U Universal USB Datalogging and Reflashing Cable

Thanks

No, if you read the ECUFlash and Ceddymod threads on the very first pages it mentions you must use the 2.0 cable to flash a DSM ECU. The 1.3U can be used on Evo ECUs.

Ok thanks, I read it multiple times but I was wondering if there was an alternative and I didn't want to spend the 140 bucks and find out it doesn't work.

Sadly no, and ideally you have to have both a 1.3 cable and 2.0 cable for the DSM ECU, because the 1.3 cable is known to read up to twice as fast as the 2.0 cable, but you'll need the 2.0 to flash. Luckilly, you can use a $12 eBay 1.3 cable to log.

I've heard that only the 2.0 works, however, my 1.3U works to flash and log on my 98 GST spyder. Not sure why mine works and the others can't get theirs to work. I have it for my 3g eclipse and decided to just try it on the spyder and it worked fine for me. I'd still be on the safe side and get the 2.0, look on evoM and you can usually find them for cheap.

The 2.0 is good for both logging and flashing, like stated before, the 1.3U is ideal for logging as it can log faster though.

I know virtually nothing about any of the 1.3X cables other than the 1.3U, so I'll let someone else chime in on that one.

I log with a VAG-COM 409.1 cable from eBay, $10.49 with free shipping. Some people can't get this cable to work, but it works 100% for me on both my '95 and '98.

Well I'm a bit confused. I'm trying to find a cable through EvoScan, but there are 3 options for my car. I have a 97 GST with a 6 bolt swap. I plan to get a flashable ECU sometime in the future, but I don't currently have one. Which cable should I go with?
Here are my options:
1997 OPENPORT 1.3D, 1.3R,1.3U 16pin

Add the 2.0 to your list and buy that one instead of any 1.3 cable.

I forgot to post this earlier but now that this thread is back up, I tried that $10 cable and it didn't work for me. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

I have been using the Vag Com cable as well and it's been working fine to log. Try removing any drivers you installed for the cable, then install ECU flash and try giving evoscan a try. The install of ECU flash should contain the correct drivers you need to make the vag com cable work

Thanks, What drivers do I need and do I put them in the Evoscan file? And right now I just want to log rather than so I'm fine buying a cheaper cable at the moment if the 1.3d cable will be capable of logging. While I'm on the subject of being cheap, I have a OBDII->Serial and a serial->USB, would it be the lack of drivers not making this combo work?

Just install ECUFlash, it should have all the proper drivers. If that doesn't work, on EvoScan's website they have a link to FTDI drivers, try those.

I'm pretty sure no matter what cable you try and use to log you will need to install the drivers provided with ecu flash.

As Absit said, just try downloading and installing ecuflash from here:

Download EcuFlash

I believe their is another install that comes up twords the end of the software install that deals with installation of openport drivers.

Sorry for reviving a dead thread but I didn't want to start another one since its only a couple months.

Anyways. I have the ebay 409.1 cable and as long as I instal ecuflash and then evoscan I should be able to log?
