I have bought this engine off of craigslist and they told me this was for a 97 eclipse and was completley not the correct engine as I needed 2.0 dual overhead cam and this is single 8 valve. Now I am trying to sell this engine which looks to be in great shape but I am usure how to list it, not sure what year eclipse it came off or anything about it. Can someone on here please email or let me know based on your knowledge? How much would a engine like this go for? I was told it was tested with oil and had 70,000 miles on it when pulled.

Looks like a 4G15 1.5L motor - not even an Eclipse motor even it's from Mitsu.

Look around the exhaust manifold area towards the front and there should be a small flat shelf area that has the motor code stamped in this area.

That valve cover is too new for a 1g. My 1.8L 1g Eclipse's VC doesnt look like that. Maybe is a 3g Eclipse....

mine doesnt' look exaclty like that but has M16E near the area on the side (block?) the picture on the bottom right the numbers say EJ13 thats bout all i can make out

If you would, clean the area below off and look again. There should also be an engraving with the actual engine code behind the exhaust manifold and water pipe (picture on right hand side, second from the bottom) but you will need to remove those items to see it.

100% For sure a 4g15 from the 1993-1994 mirage, colt and Excel. I know because I have a 1994 Hyundai Excel. And I got to say WOW that is one nice engine. How much did you pay? I would buy it from you, but you live to far away.

I'm not exactly sure. I replied to a posting for a 96 eclipse engine off craigslist and when I got there he told me it would fit on my car with some simple modifications. I knew it looked different but thought maybe since it was a diff year and that some engines are chryslers anyway I knew most things could be different and the guy assured me it was out of a eclipse in 96. I took my chances becasuse it had low mileage and looked great. Looking to sell it now, should I just list it online as a 4g15 from the 1993-1994 mirage, colt and Excel even thought it says mithsubishi on some of the pics?

Wow $1000, Ya you over paid for that. And yes it is a Mitsubishi engine. The mirage, colt and excel all have Mitsubishi engines. If it wasn't X'mas time I would take you up on that offer, thanks anyways.

Ok guys thanks so much for the help. The number listed is JA3AA11A4UTUO19998. what does this say about it?

Sorry make that: JA3AA11A4TUO19998

the "JA3" meaning that it was assembled in Japan for sure.

Looks like a VIN number. "019998" would be the last six numerical digits of a VIN, "TU" would be the year (T being 1996) and series, and "A" would be the motor ID letter (like T for the 4G37, R for the 4G63NT and U for the 4G63Turbo for the 1G, 90-91 DSM line)

Sometimes, they stamp the VIN numbers on the blocks so the two would match up on the assembly line.

It means it's exactly what i3oi3c78 stated in every facet but (minor detail) the year. DSM1G90 has the year listed.

Thanks, so basically its a 1996 mitshubishi engine for a 1.6L 4g15 mirage, colt or excell. Definatley not out of a eclipse?

That is 100% for sure not out of an eclipse.
