random hole

ok so i own a 1g talon tsi awd and smoke has been comming out of the engine bay i thought it was just an exaust leek. it burns oil so it smokes. but i got under my car to check things out and there is no hole in my exaust ive found a hole on the lower fire wall side of my engine about 5 inches below the intake manifold and two or three inches to the left of the lower engine mount. some thing is supposed to be there for emmissions im guessing. i was wondering if any one knew what might go there possibaly a pcv valve or something. i have no repair book or any thing yet so im kinda sol on finding out what it might be ill post a pic of it later when i find my camra.

Knock sensor if it's on the backside of the block. If I am correct.

I'm guessing if you aren't pissing oil or coolant, it's a bolt hole. Also if it is prefectly round or has smoothe edges, It is something that is supposed to be there.

So it's looking like it's on the passenger side of the block? Easier to identify things with driver/passenger instead of left/right.

While you're under there, check the knock sensor and make sure all its RTV-like backing is still intact and not melted out. Causes funky readings, and it gave me a check engine light. It's the thing with wires going to it in the second picture two posts down.

its on the drivers side and what are rtv?

and ive never had any cels it smokes preety good out of the hole. no fluids tho

That's the hole to check if the rear balance shaft/oil pump is in phase when doing a timing job. You need to plug it. It is an M10x1.25 pitch bolt and should be as short as possible so as not to interfere with that shaft. It must not be 20mm or longer. If you want, the Mitsu part # is MD065945.

u are a saint 19eclipse90 that is exactly the one thank u VERY much do u know if it being missing would affect any thing cus ive driven it like that a couple of time just want to make sure it didnt hurt any thing

You will be leaking out oil like crazy and possibly be getting dirt into your engine. Without a bolt there it is a hole into the block... Fix that before you drive it!

know worries i wont only drivin it about 5 times seince i bought it only round the block as i slowly tune her back to good running condition and any test drives well have to be delayed.

Thanks, I cant remember if that hole was plugged or not. But I highly suspect that's where the oil is coming from. I Will take a look ASAP!!! Thanks again!

I am not as well informed on 1Gs but on 2Gs this would be a significant vacuum leak that may not be picked up by doing a BLT, due to PCV check valve.

Bet your car idles better with this hole plugged.

im so lost this is a thread I started 4 years ago I don't even own the same dsm any more. was there a question you needed answered?

god looking over my old posts when I first got into dsm I was such a newb. haha
