In the process of buying my friends 95gsx, light bolt on mods on it(intake, exhaust, greddy bov, aftermarket rims) looking to get a little more power out of it for semi cheap until i can afford to really dig money into it. Any sudgestions?

Maintenance, maintenance, and maintenance. If you know for a fact it's been done, then invest in a manual boost controller, some ARPs and turn the boost up to 15 psi. Also do the fuel pump rewire.

From what i've heard from this girl, they did test for boost leaks, found 7 and then gave up, so yeah that seems like the thing to do.

And when it comes to manual boost controllers, does brand matter much? Idk if i go out and spend alot on a good one if i'm simply paying for the label. Seems like a waste to spend a bundle on one to handle 15psi, when i know i won't be replacing the turbo and going beyond that boost for a decent time.

"Looking for cheap, quick power."

All you're going to do is make problems for yourself. Wait until you can afford to do everything right.

I wasn't sudgesting i wanted to put garbage things on the car persay, just that i'm not in the range of turbo swapping yet.

That has nothing to do with it. You need to spend some time and money on maintenance before you go trying to get more power out of it. Since you already have the basic stuff done, the next step in the "cheap and quick" frame of mind is to get a cheap boost controller and turn the boost up to the point right before you're going to start hitting fuel cut. Even if you do that, you're not going to gain THAT much on the stock turbo. You said you want to pour some money into the car, so why not wait, get a feel for the vehicle and maybe find some potential problem areas over the next couple months while you save up money for everything. Fix anything that might be wrong with it and then start with your hardcore mods.

Sounds like the smart thing to do. I'll admit i posted this before i looked around much on the site and i've found alot now. Thanks for the opinions guys.

You have a 95, which is a 2g, which comes with a T25. A turbo swap to a 14b will be one of the best and cheapest things for power you can do. You can install a 14b for under $200, maybe even $150 like me if you find a good deal on the 14b.

You first need to search and do the maintenance and repair the car. Sounds neglected. Boost leaks take 10 min to fix.

Cheap, reliable, fast.

Pick two.

Honestly you make an install kit for a 16g/14b (the install the same) for less than 100$, pick up a used 14b or 16g for less 150/250 respectivly. Bolt it on, and be a hell of a lot faster. Also you can make a Manual Boost controller or less than 15$, grab an AEM Filter and ditch your stock air filter in the garbage bin. All of that should be under 400$, if you spend the other 600$ on an exhaust, and maintenance stuff you will have a fast and reliable car. To me 1000$ invested in a DSM + the usually 2500-3500 prices is cheap as shit.

You need a AFPR to use a 255...

Anyways, start by replacing the fuel filter, plugs, wires, timing belt, Doing a boost leak test. Rewire your stock fuel pump or get an evo 8 one. Rewire that too though.... You need to get proper fuel it is crucial.

After you take care of maintenance do the 16g/14b install.

As far as the stock turbo right now is concerned, i think i saw around here that you shouldn't go beyond 15psi on it? Just confirming.

The T25 wont really do a whole lot of good above 15psi...neither will a 14b. They will just become a hot air blower and nothing more. Honestly, I would drop in an Evo III 16G and call it good...you will have a lot more room to play and keep the cost low.

A lot of people have the "DSM=cheap power" mentality and it gives DSM's a bad rap. Respect your car and she will respect you back and make all of the power you ask her to.

I do want to put the money into this car in the long run, dsm's are georgeous and worth every penny imo.

What about the bov. I know she has it recirculated right now, is it best to keep it that way?

 Tell that to the guys running 10's, 11's, and 12's on the 14b pushing 20-30 psi. Check out this thread, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/355512-14b-drag-race-discussion-thread.html. The t-25 and 14b are no comparison.

That's interesting, I will have to read up more when I get the chance. I personally still would not try to make a ton of power with a 14b...it becomes a choke fest up top. It can't flow what it needs to.....or maybe it can since people are running 10's with it. I would still go with my 20g over the 14b anyday.

It isn't stock, though i don't know the exact specs on it, there's a greddy bov on it i believe.

Hopefully you're joking...

For a 1G most never reach the limits of the 14b because they haven't the skill to tune it or properly build their cars.

For a 2G I'd just go with a 16g for the simple fact that you gotta upgrade it anyways.

I'd put my 14b up against most of the guys 20gs on here all day long for the simple fact that the tune is more important than anything. Its been a while since I have seen an impressive 20g. At the end you are comparing a turbo you had stock to something you had to buy. Hell I could say I'd take an HX35 over your 2G but whats the point?

That's why it says you're using a 14b in your profile right?

A lot of people are right on here about maintenance. Sometimes i take it for granted just because the way I am. Sometime i think everyone on a car site/forum is similar in showing love to there cars...aka maintenance. And thats not the truth. I think we beet the importance of maintenance. One thing you can do is the home Depo boost leak tester and find all of them yourself.

I'm sure the biggest boost leak you have is from the T/B shaft seals. I know 4 people with 2g's and they all had there seals leak bad, mind included. I'm a bit off topic here but all boost leaks are bad. Because the car is AWD change the trans fluid, xfer case and rear end with redline fluids. Inspect the bushings/tie rods/ball joints for wear. Push up on the drive line and see if the carrier bearing moves...etc.

after you did the stage 0...i would look into a nice down pipe/cat removal. (im guessing your car has just a cat back) Walbro 190 so you don't have to do the AFPR... and seriously look into a used 14b. There a great turbo and you can get them cheap. A cheap Intercooler from punishment racing, or Dejon racing. They both have front mounts for as cheap as 300 bucks for the 2g right now. And a SAFC. If you can afford it i would look into DSM link instead of the AFC . But thats just me. And like everyone said a nice MBC. and your good to go for awhile. :thumb:
