Hi I just bought a turbo that come off an evo 8. I drive 2g with an evo3 16g that is blown, is it possible to use the evo8 turbo but use the exhaust housing off the turbo that I have? I know that on the evos the tutbo is on the right side and the 2gs the turbo is on the left, so if I were to try to install that the way it is,it wouldn't work. Hope that made sense. Thanks

As far as I know it will not bolt on. The newer evo turbo runs a completely different exhaust housing. It is a divided housing. If I were you I would look into rebuilding your current turbo.

you might be physically able to do,,, it but it would just make the turbo spin backwards....

To answer your question OP, no. The EVO 8 turbine is rotated in the opposite direction of your conventional 16g. You cannot interchange the turbine housings because of this; regardless of whether or not they will bolt up. If you also have the EVO 8 exhaust manifold, and depending how much work you want to do you *could* run that EVO 8 turbo on your 2G. A lot of folks on here say that it can't be done, but I am running one on Ghetto Colt, so I know that it can (and YES, I already know that there are differences betweent he CSM and the DSM platforms). I am in the process of hanging one on the Yugo as well, but haven't found the time to do so, yet.
You have to ask yourself if it is worth all the re-configuration you'd be doing just to overcome a bad turbo. In my mind the retro-fit to the EVO 8 turbo was easy, but I do this kinda stuff quite a bit and others may see it as useless. My goals are probably a lot different from yours too, as I was building a Colt GT (Ghetto Colt) from spares and extras that I had lying around. I would not have paid for the turbo to put it on the car, I just had it.
So, to answer your question: no, it isn't a simple turbine housing swap but yes, it can be done........

I copied and pasted this from nweidlich's post about how he did his install.

Just so you guys know, you don't have to buy a flange if you have the EVO 8 manifold. Just turn the turbo 180* on the mani, and drill and tap 2 holes; one in the manifold and one in the turbo flange. The twin scroll divider still lines up (of course) and it is much cheaper than using an adapter, plus you keep a true twin-scroll manifold.
In Ghetto Colt I am using a Honda radiator, too. With addition of a larger aftermarket oil cooler temps stay low. In my silver Mirage (I didn't build it, but) I have a T-66 and have a Honda-ish-sized radiator and it never gets hot either, even with the oil cooler bypassed.

Man down here we make everything work, we put an evo x turbo on an evo one. My friend cut the flanges off where it bolts to the head and re welded the evo 1/dsm one onto the evo x mani.

Another friend of mine makes tubular manifolds for any car to put any turbo you want on it, yes their devided and use the evo flanges :)

would be sweet if someone like Shearer made a tubular twin scroll manifold for a dsm that put the Evo8-10 turbo in a proper location to allow the use of standard dsm equipment (radiator, alt, etc)....

i bet slowboy or fp can cast one... external gate off the mani and cheap... this is sounding good for a dd project :)

EVO X turbo on a DSM should be easy, all you need is an adapter plate to handle the flange change, if you look at the turbine housing both the EVO X and DSM turbos spin the same direction so they almost bolt up and sit in the same location, you would just loose the twin scroll design of the turbine without the correct manifold. the EVO8's and 9's are reverse so it could be done but you end up with the turbo half stuck into the radiator or you get a custom adapter made to tuck it into the engine a bit. not impossible if you have the means to fab your own parts...

We cut the flange off the evo x mani and weld a dsm one on there. We also build custom twin scroll devided manifolds to bolt an evo 8-9 turbo onto a dsm w/o putting it into the radiator.

The Evo X turbo would be a lucrative swap. Twin scroll 20g :D But I wouldn't bother doing it unless you properly divided the runners (make a tubular manifold for it.) Just putting an adaptor plate would be pointless and you would see better spool with a bolt-on 20g, and be cheaper, and basically no fabrication work, just a downpipe.
