1G and 2Gb CAS on 2Ga car

Does anyone know how hard it is to add a non 2Ga CAS sensor to 2Ga car?

I can get a 2Gb one quite easily right now, but I heard it requires some drilling or something and that 1G CAS is much easier to swap.

Has anyone done something like this, which one should I get? I will do timing adjustments through ECU, so I'd rather go with 2Gb CAS which is nonadjustable, if it's not a major PITA.

For a 2gb CAS, you would need to drill/tap the passenger's side of your intake cam (or just get a 2gb intake cam).

And the 1G CAS is a straight bolt on?

Yep. Just wire it up, make sure it's not 180* out, put it on, and bolt it down.

How does it read the cam position then? Is there no rotating part inside the CAS?

If you check out the wiring diagrams, you'll see it uses wires from both the 2g CAS and CPS plugs. So you'll replace the two sensors on your 2g with just that one sensor.

I will try to study those diagrams more deeply. I'm not very good at wiring stuff. But I am hoping I will still be able to use the CPS and 2Ga CAS as well.

I want to switch to 98/99 ECU, but for now, I need to be able to keep the old ECU working. So I will need to come up with a scheme, or switch of some sorts.

Do any other cars aside Turbo DSMs have a 1G CAS sensors? Galant's GTi's/Colts? 1G turbo cars that are being parted out are incredibly rare in Europe.

shop the harness in RRE I found one in ebay and is more easy to install

I don't mean to thread jack but i do got a question that is very related to this... if people say that adding a 1g CAS can replace both the Crank angle sensor and the cam angle sensor... why not just split the output signal from the crank angle sensor in the first place?
