how do i check if my ecu is fried? i looked it up and there is one that says to take a volt meter and stick a probe in the first pin and in the 10th pin. then i should get a wave of lights from the dash from left to right. is this true?? and can i just use a paperclip instead because the probes do not fin in the holes.

LOL that is a new one by me Ive never heard of that! What you can do is take the ecu out of the car open it up and look for corrosion and leaking caps. I just sent my ecu to these guys this page will help a great deal in determining if your ecu is bad ecurepairhome [ECMTuning - wiki]

ya man here is where i got it from ECM TECH INFO - FAQ - HOW TO KNOW YOU NEED AN ECM

in the "First assess your symptoms" section on the forth bullet.

so that doesn't make sense to you? and the symptoms are the idle air control check engine light is on or that is the code that is showing so i replaced that and the o ring and so it now says it could be the ECM and the mechanic wants to charge me another 100 bucks to find out what it is. and its very irritating because i need the car and i have spent all my money in parts and labor. i have to wait till friday to get paid and then pay to get it checked out and then parts. OMG its soo annoying.

wow wow dont go sticking anything into the ecu ok. They were talking about pulling check engine codes out of the diagnostics port in the drivers kick panel i have heard of that. But first and foremost DONOT START PUTTING PAPPER CLIPS IN THE ECU HARNESS ITSELF!!!!!!! 2g ecu almost never go bad (very rare) so before we assume its the ecu lets start with what is actually wrong with the car what is the problem please explain in detail.

LOL ok man i was just checking. i see honda ppl do it all the time LOL and it just idels funny. and when i turn the wheel it revs to like 2k and it also fluctuates sometimes. and dies at idel a few times. it was running ruff but then i found that the timing was out of wack and got it timed. but that was after i replaced the air idle control valve and the fuel pressure regulator. which is what the mechanic thought it was. then after a month i took it to another mechanic and found it was the timing. and had the belt replaced.

LOL thats the whole story.

so it was the timing belt? how many teeth did it skip do you know? did he just put a new belt on? have you checked your ignition timing? have you checked for any vacuum leaks?

no he did not put a new one on because he said it looked new. and he didnt say how many teeth it skipped. and no how do you check ignition timing. and no i have not checked for vacuum leaks.

i figured it was that thing the diagnostic computer said so i just replaced it and am starting to check that stuff.

Did he rest your battery after he put the new idle air control motor in? you'll want to check for vacuum leaks first off they cause a high/fluctuating idle.
if all that checks out go buy a haynes manual and a timing light from you local auto parts store. Also there is a chance you could have bent some valves in the head when the timing belt skipped. you could have bent them just enough to hang open a little bit and cause a crazy idle. there are a ton of thing that can affect idle but you are on the right track now.

he said i have even compression in the motor. can the valves still be bent???

and how do u check the ignition timing??? is that different from regular timing??? i know how to time a car i just never heard it called that before. and ya im gonna invest in the book.

there's a mark on the timing belt cover and a mark on the crank pulley, you use a timing light while the engines running to align the marks. But you first must take the ignition advance off the motor. There should be a little plug up on the fire wall by the battery you have to ground the lead in this connector that takes the advance off the motor then use the timing light to align the marks and done! i would rest the battery first as the comp may not know what position the iac is in it may think its in the wrong position trying to adjust giving you your bad idle

how long do you rest the battery? and thats just disconnecting it right? and thanks for the help.
