ok, my i live in Carlsbad NM. the weather if fairly nice around here, but untill a couple months ago my tranny was acting fine. Then the cold came, now my TSI acts slugish the A/T is cold(the engine isn't cold, i usually let it warm up for a few mins before i drive it). Also after a few mins of driving in cold weather, the A/T is a little warmed up. But even after driving for 30-45 mins(cruzing) i can go part throttle( about 50%) and tranny downshifts(depending on what speed im at) and start to accel. As it reaches higher rpms it doesn't want to shift>. the car jerks back and forth and then finally shifts. BUT in a run against someone, with about 10secs of brake torquring, it shifts fine. I wondering is it the kind of atf im using that doesn't work well when cold or is something broken. Im im currently using an autozone filter and royal purple max atf with only about 300 miles on it. I was thinking about changing to an ipt filter with redline atf, butt wanted some opions on this first> thank you and sorry for the spelling errors.:thumb:

I would get i tranny temp gauge installed. Also you should be able to find out what your line preasure should be with your tranny and put a gauge in line and check and see if it is with in specs..

Thats were i would start

Thank you for the quick reply, I'll get an A/t temp gauge asap, how would i check my line pressure? I've never done it before, would RP max ATF have any thing to cause this? maybe viscousity is too thick at low temps? Just a thought. Thank you.

DSM auto transmissions are sensitive to the ATF, both friction characteristics and level. The current recommendation for my 2G is ATF-4 I'm not sure that it's the same for your 1G.

Slipping while cold is a classic sign of low ATF. Have you checked the ATF level with the engine running in neutral and at operating temperature? Pass the transmission through each gear briefly before leaving in neutral for the check.

That is neutral not park. Checking in park will cause the reading to be a quart or two high. Ask me how I know. No don't

If ATF is fresh and the level is ok you could try adding a bottle of Lubegard friction modifier in the black bottle before trying anything expensive.

I changed atf(redline) and a new filter(ipt) and it still does it, i've done the check in neutral and even after 5 quarts, shows low. Doesn't a 1g only hold like 3.5 quarts? i thik i found a leak in one of the cooler lines. i'm gonna replace the whole thing (lines and cooler aftermarket of course) to seee if the leak stops

I would try to do a flush of the tranny myself. The tranny plus converter hold 9.5 quarts. 3.5 quarts is just in the pan. I have never used that fluid before but I would use a sythetic +4 or Amsoil if you can get a hold of any. That is what I run in mine. I just did a complete flush of my tranny after the TCU was messing up on me just to be safe. It really isn't that hard to flush the it all out and start fresh.

I would also make sure that those 2 fluids have the same exact weights cause thaey are mixed in your tranny now.

Ok, i've changed to aft 4+ i'm at the proper fluid level, and it does this alll the time, regardless of temp. I can barely go half throttle and the car jerks a few time and back fires around 5500, then after a few times of this it will then go to about 6500 then shift. this is really fustrating, some people think it's gear, disks, something wrong with the valve body, or shift solenoids. Any idea?
