Hello,
Our Talon with a 7 bolt engine has a bad transaxle.
We have an early 6 bolt transaxle here.

The transaxle physically fits but we are having a problem with the flexplate and the convertor.

Does anybody know what combination you need to use to be able to install a 6 bolt trans into a car using a 7 bolt engine?

The torque convertors are two different heights and the flexplates are shaped to take up this difference. Even if we re-drilled the 6 bolt flexplate to the proper 7 bolt patter, the flexplate hits the edge of the block and oilpan.

Does anybody make a different flexplate that will work?
Is there a different combination of parts that will work?

Please email me.

what a we working on here? ok so you have a 7 bolt motor and want to use a 6 bolt Auto Transmission I understand that, but is this going into a 1G or 2G shell?

I know what you mean about the flexplate not working since im workin on my friends car, he has a 1G Talon with a 6 bolt motor auto and we are using a 2G Auto transmission. The only prolblem we had was the flexplate not working since they are different:notgood:

I know Kiggly Racing makes a flexplate but this is to use a 6 bolt motor with a 2G auto trans. and this is what we are using. It will probably not work for you though since thats for a 6bolt motor Kiggly Racing - kigglyracing.com

If it is going in a 2G car the 6-bolt trans will not work as it will be lacking the front and rear motor mounts.

Not worried about mounts....fabricating mounts is easy...simple fabrication.

I am specifically interested in the flexplate / convertor issue and solutions.

What do u mean by roll stops???

We have had the transmission physically in the car.
The only issue again is the flexplate and convertor issue.

The front and rear mounts are called roll stops. They don't suspend the engine or tranny, but they keep the assembly from rolling in the direction of the crankshaft. The problem is that 1G cars had the roll stops bolt to the engine block and 2G cars had them bolt to the tranny case. So, if you're using a 2G 7-bolt engine and a 1G tranny in a 2G car, then there won't be any place for you to bolt up the front and rear roll stops.

OK...so after a conversation with Kevin at Kiggly, it looks like I need a flexplate from a 92-94 auto turbo car. They were 7-bolts.

So, does anybody have a flexplate from a 92-94 auto turbo car?
If not, where can I get one? They aren't available aftermarket....
Are there any DSM only junk yards anywhere?

They probably have a few laying around.

But, fair warning. Even if you get the torque converter and flexplate issues taken care of, you're going to run into a road block when you try to attach the front and rear mounts (roll stops). Unless you're prepared to weld aluminum mounting provisions onto that tranny case, it's not going to work in that car.

What he said. You are going through some trouble now getting the right flexplate. Wait until you actually try to bolt the engine/trans into the car.

but he said "The transaxle physically fits but we are having a problem with the flexplate and the convertor."
I still dont know if this is going in a 1g or 2g:confused:
The year of the car doesn't matter as much as the year of the engine. If it's a 2G 7-bolt engine and a 1G tranny, then there isn't any place to bolt up the roll stops.

But I did just realize that he doesn't specify which year 7-bolt engine it is. If it's a 1G 7-bolt going in a 1G car, then he's in the clear.
