For a 2g eclipse gst what should the compression test show? I bought a new(30k motor) engine. I think I got a non-turbo engine. What is operating spec for a 2g turbo motor?
 
Compression specifications
=> 14 psi maximum difference between cylinders

1G (90-94) T/E/L 1.8L NT engine 2.0L NT engine 2.0L Turbo engine
Compression ratio 9.0:1 9.0:1 7.8:1
Standard compression 185 psi 192 psi 164 psi
Service limit 131 psi 145 psi 121 psi

2G (95-99) T/E 2.0L NT 420A engine 2.0L 4G63 Turbo engine 2.4L NT Spyder engine
Compression ratio 9.6:1 8.5:1 9.5:1
Standard compression 170-225 psi 178 psi 192 psi
Service limit 100 psi 133 psi 146 psi

I asked the question becaue I didn't know... I was able to look up this imformation on a manual cd a bought some years ago.. ha ha it was still in my car...

This a 4g63 motor. I did a compression test on the car and I get 240psi in 1,2,3. and in number 4 i get 242psi. this explains why I am getting detonation. the compression ratio is too high! I have a motec in the car right now... so I can back out as much timing as I want. But in order for the car to move.. it has to be advanced at some point. I have to give the car so much fuel because of the compression ratio - my injectors are maxing out.. they are 550cc(they are good enough for 350hp), but the car only gets 200hp on the dyno.

I believe that I was sold a non-turbo 4g63 from japan, or the wrong pistons were put in a turbo motor. I called mitsubishi of america - but they dont know anything about motors originally sold in japan. The engine seller claimed the motor was turbo - even when I questioned it more than once because of the oil pan not having a place for the turbo oil return line to go.

before this motor, I blew up the original running too much boost. but now I only run 8psi. But the engine ran great otherwise!

I cant think of any other reason why the motor is acting the way it is. What does everyone think?
 
any ideas? ok what if the motor I bought had the head resurfaced. would that raise or lower the compression? would it raise it enough to get 240 psi on a compression check? could it be a NON-TURBO 4G63?!?!?!
 
Found some more info.

There was a non turbo second generation 4G63 sold in germany, according to RRE.

I talked to a guy in europe who owned a 1996GS with a 4G63 non turbo motor in it.

Aparently the non-turbo 4G63 motors were sold in Europe and Japan. I have no documentation to back this up as of yet.

can anyone point me in any direction to find more about this motor?
