Brand new engine and the dipstick keep blowing out and getting oil on my valve cover etc. Why is it doing this? Is this a major problem that i should NOT be having with this new engine? I have balance shafts removed, if this is a factor and 9:0 compression. Thanks

Something is going wrong in the crank case. Pressure is building up in the oil pan. like he ^^^said PCV....maybe a little beating on the engine when you shoulda let the pistion rings seat to the the walls...something along the lines like that

Search, search, search my friend. ;)

87. you thought you blew up your dsm but in fact the dipstick popped out and sprayed oul all over the manifold causing massive smoke ( come on, we all freaked out a little the 1st time the dipstick blew out)

181=Every time you race, you have to put the dipstick back in

66) You can launch your oil dipstick 20ft

A properly broke in engine will not blow the dipstick. It takes me an hour to break in an engine. Check and make sure it's not the pcv valve, or any other issuse beside ring seal. My car has 3,500 miles on the engine i built for it. It has been on e-85 and 30 psi of boost since mile 10. My dipstick has never blown out.

or bad PCV letting boost into crank case will do it too. Or bad dip stick that barely seals in the tube along with bad pcv.

edit* had this thread open in a different tab. Last reply was #3 by 2gGSXEclipse, Replied kinda late. LOL

I did get on it and boost just about 5 times with the brand new engine. Would this forever cause my piston rings not to seat properly? Other than that i have driven smoothly.

The worst thing you can do with a new engine is to get on the highway and cruise 55 for any distance. If it was a quality job by someone reputable i would check pcv issues before jumping to conclusions. All my engines see 10 psi by the time i get to the corner of my street.

The pistonrings require a fair amount of cyl. pressure to seat them properly. To not put some pressure into it can cause the glazing of the rings. There are products to seat rings on new engines but I don't use them. The pcv should blow/suck in one direction only, simple enough. The breather should move air freely ; the hose on the front right of the V/C. You did get the rings in correctly? If the gaps are not properly set up, no amount of seating will help. Tres....

The shortblock already came assembled through SBR. So im guessing the rings were done right. SHould teh ring "eventually" seat themselves? or do i have a big problem to worry about? I bought an dipstick with a spring "STM" that holds it on better, but want to fix the problem also. My old dipstick did kinda sit in there loosely, but i clamped it and it still blew out.

Don't be afraid to beat on it right away. In fact, you SHOULD beat on it right away, that's how the piston rings seat to the cylinder walls. If you're a manual car, don't be afraid to engine brake either.
