Coolant loss! & funny smells?

I have 97 GSX and from the day i got it, it ALWAYS needed coolant in the overflow not normally in the radiator but sometimes. Some dumb girl t-boned me a month ago and i finally got my car back and it used almost the whole gallon of coolant... I'm getting my timing belt and waterpump changed next week I'm HOPING that will be my answer that the waterpump was leaky or old coolant or something in the mean time any ideas?oh and sometimes when I reverse I smell something.. food smelling but idk what?

do you know the condition of your head gasket?

Are you overheating?

Have you done a pressure test? check the radiator cap?

i have no idea the condition of my head gasket, no it isn't overheating and no i haven't pressure tested it but ill do that!
