I just got done putting a 92 fwd transmission into my 90 laser I have been searching for awhile about all the steps for this trans swap but Im still having problems...I dont have 1st or 2nd gear,Im using the 90 shifter with 92 shifter cables along with the 92 shifter bracket right now..I read on v-faq that I need to use the 90 shifter cable bracket with 91-94 shift cables but when I do that I cant get the car into any gear...I also tried using my 90 shifter cables with the 92 bracket and got 1st thru 4th gear no reverse or 5th gear so I tried that along with swappin the vertical arm on the trans for my 90s arm still no luck.......Is there something im missing..I also tried using the 92 shifter with no luck

Can someone explain to me the proper steps when putting a 91-94 trans in a 90 cause everything I try doesnt work and leaves me with 2 gears missing

Yeah I tried it with the 92 shifter and cables The only cable that was adjustable is the Side cable And with adjusting that I got nothing...Thats the thing that bugs me im using the 90 shifter with the 92 cables and bracket and I dont have 1st or 2nd but I have all the rest...When I swap and use the 92 shifter, cables and bracket I dont have 5th or reverse But I have all other gears???

I checked the vin on the bell housing and it is 92 Not sure how to actually tell if the trans is 91-94?.. and before I swapped cables and shifter for the 92,,I tried swapping the bracket while using my 90 shifter and cables thats when I got 1st thru 4th but no reverse or 5th and after adjusting the cables still no 5th or reverse

I have been reading all day and alot of people say I can use my 90 shifter and cables as long as I change the bracket but then other people say change everything to the 92 and vfaq says keep the 90 shifter change the cables and keep the 90 bracket...None of that works for me da**it...Im stummped

Yeah I adjusted the cables at the console it made no difference and I checked for kinks and twists..There is nothing in the way cables move freely

Thanks guys I will be spending the day in the garage tryin to figure this out...I will post back If I have Any luck....

Thakns for the help guys...I put the 92 shifter in and re adjusted the shift linkage and got all the gears now....So my beast is back on the road:sneaky:
