how do u spot a real MHI turbo

Not sure where to put this, but how can you spot a real MHI turbo? Thanks.

By the serial number. Or you can post a pic and we can tell you.

It's kind of hard to tell the difference. Cross reference the serial number on the compressor housing and look for balance cuts on the turbine shaft. The ebay 16gs have a crappy adjustable wastegate.

If its says "turbo-charger" then its a knock-off.

The easiest quick way to know is to see if it has a name plate like this one, if it does then it is an ebay 16g.

The second way is to look at the wastegate actuator, if it is straight and adjustable then it is from ebay.

If it is curve and a single piece then it is probably genuine.

A dead give away is the acuater. on a not real mhi is adjustable. and the real mhi is not adjustable.hope that helps.also the hot side tends to turn red insted of brown like a real mhi.

Yes that looks like a real MHI. Real ones also never say EVO III or 16G on them like some of the fake ones do

Bonus information: The way to tell a small or big 16g from an evo3 16g is to check the turbine housing. A small or big 16g will have a nearly square flange whereas a big 16g turbine housing cuts back in around the bolts.

The way to tell a 14b from a 16g is to look into the compressor inlet, if it has alternating blades it is a 16g if it has every blade the same then it is a 14b.

Many people mistakenly state that there is no external difference between a 14b and all of the 16g variants, while very close to true a trained eye can spot the differences immediately and identify each turbo. The only turbos that are not identifiable without pulling them apart or checking the part number are the small and big 16g.
