so i see alot of threads about 1g dsm no cooling fans so i know im not alone with my problem first the new thermo., rad. thermo. switch, engine coolant sensor"under thermo" rad. fan switch"or so it was listed" the sensor above the thermostat the temp gauge sensor"the 1wire sensor" and last but not least my fan relay and i have no cooling fans still i am very good at working on cars but i am stumped/confused/frustrated and i need some help from anyone willing to throw out a idea worst case im gonna just cut out the fac. wiring and make my own proper wiring harness with fusible links and what not but i have tried the following troubleshooting
1. jumped the connection at the relay good fans turn right on
2. jumped the connection at the thermo switch on the bottom of the rad fans on
3. wired 1 of the fans to a switch to test how it would work on a switch it worked but its not factory so i dont like it
4 i was told to try grounding out 1 of the pins and got nothing it was the relay in the quick drawing below its a blow up of the passenger side relay with the pins numbered how i was told the number 2 pin is to be grounded with a switch but nothing
anyone got an idea

i run my fans all the time.. i installed a jumper wire from pins 3 and 2 on your drawing there. so when the key is on my fan is on. Never had a problem with this and my car is always at about 185 even on the highway.

so you just pulled the relay and left it out then ran a "what size did you use roughly" wire from my drawings 3 and 2 pin with no fusible link and you have no problems? that sounds 2 easy to be good but if so i thank you very much for the idea because im out of them so im going to go try that right now

i made a fusible link out of 14 gauge copper wire a 20 amp fuse and some connectors really very simple just how it is in the drawing just jump a wire from 2 to 3 and when the keys on the fans are on and when the keys off there off works great thanks again
well the idea gave me a nice picture of what the pins that the relay plugged into did and made it very easy for me to fix my problem with just a little more help so i would say your idea was helpful and the fact you took the time out to even explain in detail what you where saying is a great thing most people are not interested in helping others anymore but here im 2 for 2 with problems i have asked about and have solved due to the help i got here so i thank all of you for the info you have givin me
you can move the black box "thingy" above the fuse box over to the open spot on the left of it. This will make your a/c blower knob controll your cooling fans.
Well it did on my car..
yeah I use my AC button to control my fans as well, although I dont think I ever switched that relay in the above post. But, then again only my passenger side fan comes on (cools just fine though). Maybe swapping the relay over will cause both fans to work with the AC button?

I'm not sure.. I never poped the hood and looked, but you can hear them kick on.

You should check to see if both the engine and a/c fans are coming on. The a/c fan comes on automatically when you hit the a/c button. If the engine fan comes on also, then I'll try the same thing you did.
WIth your fans running all the time, that going to possibly:
1. Cause the fan motors to fail earlier thant the normally would. Which could than cause you to over heat your engine.
2. Wrk your alternator to death.
3. Same with the battery?
Are these daily drivers? Seems like a switch would be a good idea.
Yup, exactly what happened to my car. Had them jumped, but with a switch in between so I can control when they come on and go off. Worked my Alt like crazy and drained my battery way more than usual, then switch eventually burned out. I didnt have a relay or fuse on mine tho, hopefully the relay will save my batt or alt.
To run the fans all the time is just plain dumb. The fans are a very high amperage draw. You may not realize that the alternator take some horsepower to create all that amperage. Secondly if you are going freeway speeds, the fans are not needed. You are ramming the needed air into the radiator, not sucking through like a tiny fan. Tres...
What would you suggest on turning the fans on? My fan doesnt work and I bought a new thermo sensor. It works when the relay is jumped but that takes up too much power w/o the relay plugged in. I need to find a way around to turn the fan on safely.
Has anyone tried using the condensor fan relay to turn on both fans by connecting terminals #1 and #3 to a switch. Once the switch is flipped on, both fans 'SHOULD' run but it stays on if you dont turn the switch off when you shut off the car.
