I have recently just bought an engine from Road Race Engineering minus the cams, valve cover, exhuast manifold and turbo.

It's a 6 bolt with a 2g head. It came with a 2g intake manifold but i cant use it because i live in California and it will never pass smog with a 2g manifold in a 1g car.

So i HAVE to use my 1g manifold, and im assuming you guys know the size difference between the runners and intake ports on a 1g vs 2g.

And i was just wondering what you guys think the power loss/difference would be with the 1g manifold? If it would be noticable or not that big of a deal or what? Thanks!

Why the heck would you not pass emissions?? The 2g mani has EGR provisioning if thats your arguement. :hmm:

Oh sorry i forgot to mention this, but in California there is a visual test AND emissions test. I wouldnt pass the visual.

And why's that? Do Cali inspectors know the diff between a 1G and 2G intake mani? If that even matters.

Oh yes trust me they do. They wouldn't pass me in my dads car just because they thought it was missing a little vacuum port.. they're sticklers here.

WTF? Freakin Cali and their smoke crap. It's all gonna end in 2012!! might as well let us have us fast DSMs in the mean time...

I think it would be noticeable to some extent. I mean the interruption of flow is a killer in ANY engine and your placing a manifold thats probably twice the size in port size as the 1g. Thats like ''hitting a brick wall doing a buck-twenty''(stupid fast and the furious reference). If you need to have the car running then do it. Its not like the car wont be driveable or anything. But if it IS true what you say about them noticing then i would save up for a 1G head.

Then how do people with a stock 2g mani pass?

Because it's actually on the car it's meant for. The only reason why id fail is because it looks different from when it came from the factory..

They aren't that hard to change out. Put the 1g mani on to pass and the 2g mani on to drive around.

2g manifolds have the MDP sensor on top where as a 1g manifold doesn't have provisions for a MPD sensor at all.

Why did road race build you an engine with a 2g head vs the 1g head that your car should have came stock with?

Somebody else bought the engine for a project car then decided not to do it and sold all his stuff, so i bought the engine from him. Not from Road Race Engineering directly.

Well right now i just want a DD with a little extra power.

The motor in the car now is a 6-bolt still but i already rebuild it once because a piston ring collapsed on me.

And only the second time driving it after the rebuild, it spins a damn rod bearing.
I've had soo many problems with the original engine i just said F it and bought a new motor.

I technically have a complete 1g engine i can get parts from, and i could just switch the heads, but damn dude that is soo much work that i dont have time or money for right now. I need my car back ASAP. Just found out my fiancee is preggo :)ohdamn:) so i got to save all the money i can!

You should not have any issues with passing smog, i live in cali also and have done quite a few 6-bolts in to 2g's with 1g manifolds and they pass visual no problem, all they look for is an egr valve thats it. and make sure all the vacuum lines are hooked up, and if there picky about the missing map sensor then buy one with the pigtail and make it look like its wired in to your harness. There is no way unless you get a dsm freak of a smog guy that hey will no the difference.

I just change my 1g head to a 2g head, and I'm using a 1g intake manifold on the 2g head.
Well what I've to say is that my car just got the same performance, but i'ts noticeable that the acelerate faster than before.
I'm curently running a gt35 turbo with a microtech lt8 standalone system.

I don't see how that would make since unless your 1g head was in need of a rebuild
