I know the obvious choice is to go with a good spring rate on a good aftermarket damper setup, but my issue I'm having is that I bought my gsx from some kid that hammered the shit out of it with some rediculous drop on stock dampers, or struts, whatever you want to call it. It rides like piss, its rough as hell, and I'm hitting bump stops on almost everything, not to mention bottoming out on small things, like my driveway. I don't want to replace the stock struts, I don't have that kind of money or need currently, I just want a decent spring that might have a bit of a drop, maybe 1.5 to 2 inches, slightly lower than stock, and still not ride so brutal. I've ran goldline 1.5" drop springs before on my track EG3 and those handled great, so do my skunk2 springs in my current EP3 on tokico struts, but that was money I spent for handling, this is just a daily driver. I don't know what brand these srpings are, I just know they are red and most likely Ebay special, and the exhaust sits about 3 inches off the ground because of them. Any input is appreciated, but keep in mind id rather ride on shit suspension than drop $1000 on new stuff

If your car is lowered on stock struts and has been for a little while, you've probably blown them already. You an get KYB GR2's which are a stock replacement shock that can take a LITTLE BIT (1.2" or less) of lowering and some eibach springs for around $300. If you wanted to spend a little more get some Koni's. You're going to have to buy struts anyway...

nah struts are still good. pulled everything off when I did the front shafts and I dont have any leaks, granted they may not be long for this world, and this car will never see a track, but this setup now is killing my effin kidneys. I was looking at the Eibach Pro-Kit #6015.140 for AWD, seems legit, and havent heard anything negative. And I looked into the Tanabe springs, about $40 less is also nice, but you get what you pay for right?

Ok change of pace here. To avoid all potential problems I may have with my struts, I got a set of free stockers with 40k miles off my buddies 2g convertible GST. Now I have GODD stockers, what springs? Eibach or tanabe?

Eibach. They are a quality spring manufacturer and have tight quality control specs.

tanabe if you want to go a little lower. they drop 1.5 in the front and 1.3 in rear/. and the eibach drops 1.3 all around i belive. but for me i want a lower drop so im going to go with the tanabe. im on coilovers and they are also bumpy. way too bumpy.

whatever is in my car now, rides EXACTLY like those cheap red Ebay $40 coilovers do. We all know SOMEONE thats put them in their car at some point. Im looking into Tein if those are sale priced, I had a set in a mazdaspeed protege that I liked alot, but I also have 1.3" drop Eibach springs in my buick, granted thats a WHOLE different animal, but I couldnt be happier with the ride and my improved 60' time I got from that. KYBs are surely in the future, but for now Im hoping I can ride out the freebie stock struts with a 1.2" ish drop and not blow them out too quickly, I dont normally cheap out on things, but moneys tight and this was supposed to just be dependable transportation to work. Thanks everyone for all the input

Sorry for thread jacking...
Hey I have a question for this thread, I'm looking to buy some here within the next few months, I want fully adjustable Coilovers, anyone know anything good about Megan's ?

2g's have more options than 1g's, but for us (1g's) you cannot beat a koni/Ground Control combo. To make this setup really shine you also need to fab up some pillowball mounts (Dennis Grant has some engineering drawings you can use for 2g's). If you wanted to go with a good, quality set of coilovers get some "Muellerized" JIC's. Tein, Megan, K-Sport, etc. are all garbage. Just my $.02

Pete

Eibach Pro Kit. A little over an inch drop. I believe 1.2", not a bad price. I have them matched with Toxico struts.

Eibach. They are a quality spring manufacturer and have tight quality control specs.

Go with a set of eibachs. Been around for a good time and you get what you pay for.

+3 ^^^ agreed. agreed. & agreed. :rocks: don't JUST go with "eibach" springs, go with the eibach PROKIT springs. if you want to replace your front bumper every 6 months and jack your fmic/exhaust on every speed bump and dip get the sportlines... thats what i have and it sucks.

:dsm:

Just ordered the Eibach Pro Kit for AWD 2G, guess Ill find out how well it does on a set of low mileage stock struts at this point, worst case Ill be buying a set of KYBs before too long.

Where did you get your set? How much did ya pay?

I also have a white 2gb gsx with stock suspension and 17'' wheels. I want to see what yours looks like when done and their performance.

Thanks!

How much are the Muellerized JIC's ? and How could you say Tein,Megan and K-sport are garbage? Have you personally tested each of them?

muellerized JIC's are gonna cost about $1900.....

Tein makes a good higher end setup, but even those I would not go with because if I am spending that much money I would go with Ohlins, KW, Bilstein, Moton, etc. You get what you pay for, bottom line.

Suspension is a black art. Those who know have done a LOT of research and those that want to know should. Long story short, the longer you are in the suspension world (or car world, for that matter), the more you find out about companies.

I know this post is a bit vague, but this is a tough one to field and I could go on all night about each of these companies and their goals (more along the lines of mass production than quality).

Could not agree more, if anyone needed suspension help with something Ive actually owned and raced Id be of some sort of help, but this IS my first DSM, and the suspension on it is a little different animal than what Im used to. Ive had a hand full of cars that have seen enough track time and suspension combos that Ive mastered the art of "tear down and rebuild until you get it right"

Got them on the vendor sale going on right now through BHP, $220 shipped for the PROKIT, thats the best price I could find that was guaranteed LEGIT eibach and not china crap springs. Ill have the pictures once I get the springs in, but Im debating dropping the pan and doing the IPT valve body while I have some down time and its up on the lift, so it may be a bit before its on the road again. The picture I have now is the shit springs that are in it now, its on 225/45/17's now with about 1/2" wheel gap, so Im hoping to lift it a bit and prevent from smashing my front mount anymore and bouncing like a civic with chopped springs LOL. Im more into the comfort and slight handling improvement of the springs more than the lowering part, this isnt a race car, its a daily driver to replace my EP3 civic I just sold. But since I have no baseline to compare the eclipse suspension to, I dont know how this car is SUPPOSED to handle, I DO however know when a car rides and handles like absolute shit, so Ill do the best I can to let you know what I come up with.

Please post pics when you get your Eibach Prokit on, i've been looking into the 1.2" drop because i dont like the gap between my rims and the fender wells.

I have 2 friends of mine running the megan racing coilover suspensions, one on an srt4 and the other on a 98 gst, and both rides are pretty stiff and ride height adjustable, handle good.
