About 4 years ago i had blown my 4g64 motor. I went away to Italy for the military and in about a month ill be returning back to the states to fix my car.

I'm trying to swap the gs-t motor in my car. I read so many other posts that i should keep a 4g64 motor, but I'm not try to go all out. Just something to make it a little faster with minimal efforts.

the motor that i have lined up at the moment comes with everything except the transmission... Wiring harness ECU and complete 4g63 motor (alternator, starter, etc...)

My question is:

Does the 2.0 4g63 motor bolt right on to the 4g64 tranny?

And do the motor mounts on the 4g64 motor fit right where the ones for the 4g63 need to be?

I had just spoke to someone and they said that the motor mounts are not the same as the 4g64 and i need to be certain so i know what i must do before i go fourth with this option.

And are there any other modification that would needed to be done?

To give a little visual here is a picture of my current setup...

I had put a turbo on it already. Since it had blown i reason for going with the 4g63 is that it would be easier and cheaper to make it as fast as i want without messing with internals on the 4g64

You might want to consider putting the 4G63 head on your 4G64, along with the turbo setup, for the best of both worlds.

Or, you could just turbo your 4G64 like this guy & many others:

There are many threads, other than this one I mentioned, relating to this mod & it seems pretty straightforward if you're good at wrenching.

On a side note, where were you in Italy? I was stationed in Vicenza for 4 years with the Army.

**edit** Just saw your second post with the turbo...

OK... im not looking to be told whether im wasting my time... like i mentioned earlier, i just want to put something that will give me a little more power, nothing extreme.

My motor had blown and the time i have to fix the car before i leave again is very limited. So, i know enough to say that i am putting another motor in. I don't want to put another 4g64 in because, i dont want to mess with interals or swapping the head in any way.

Also limited on cash... To get a simple boost in power i want to put the 4g63, but i need to make sure if the 4g64 tranny bolts right the 4g63 and if there is any other mods that is needed...

by the way... Aviano IT, 4 years, air force

Anyway, I'd use the 4g64 and build it up and use a 1G DOHC head on it.... wait that's what I did. :) You would be surprised by how many 4g64 users out there stick with their own block.

+1 on that. The 2.4L block is very nice with used with a 1G head, not to mention you don't have to worry about buying another block.

As everyone has already said, the 4g64 and 4g63 head is a great combo....

But to answer the OP's question. Yes the 4g63 engine will bolt to a 4g64 transmission. And I am 99% sure that all the motor mounts are exactly the same. The only thing you should have to do with the swap, is a little it of wiring. Unless you get a full engine harness.

Well you guys should atleast tell it how it is. The head isnt a straight bolt on but pretty close. A 4g63 head has a couple things different, itll take an afternoon to get it working properly on a 4g64 block.

There are threads on here about doing it though. Nothing too crazy, but it def. doesn't just bolt and go!

As far as the swap goes, the BS part of it will be the wiring. Motor/trans bolt up, 99%sure of that. But the wiring is different all together. Could amount to a nightmare and spend more time wiring then wrenching. Thats just my input though.

Check out the wiring schematics in the Chiltons, you will see what Im talking about.

Good luck either way, Im a huge fan of a 1g head on a 4g64 block.

yes i have the complete wiring harness so not worries bout wiring... thanks again for replies and answers...

And i know that the 4g64 block overall can push out more, but with limited time, money, and a blown engine that i dont have the time to rebuild. I just would like to see my car up and running with a little bit of extra speed.... thank all for your input...

Well good luck, and congratulations on making it back to the states!!

Much love for the military folks coming from me!! I respect what you guys do!!

i know this message is a long time ago, but let me get this straight,

are you saying a 4g64 tranny will definitely bolt on to 4g63T but with different clutch disk and fly wheel and as long as they are 7 bolt to 7 bolt or 6 bolt to 6 bolt. if they do definitely 100% bolt on, i owe you a big favour because i am in canada and it is not easy to find dsm parts here but there are a couple of 4g64 transmission. so i was doing a research if they can bolt on no problem. but question, have you done it ?

Is the 4g64 tranny strong enough to handle any extra horsepower ? I mean its a N/A tranny for a car that has 140 hp. I dont know how much power you are making or planning on making. I also agree with using the 4g63t head that a really good combo. I plan on using this combo for my stroker motor next year!

So will the 4g64 tranny fit the 4g63t w/o any modifications? and also is there anything different bout those two transmissions? One is more forged then the other??
