I bought a 1989 Dodge Colt GT with a 4G63 swap.

It needs a turbo so i was thinking. I Have a Big 16G but all of the mounting holes are striped out on the exhaust housing not allowing me to mount it to the exhaust manifold. Could i take the exhaust side off of my 14B and put it on the 16G to create a mountable turbo?

And if so W.T.F. did i just create??? WTF

It would still be a 16g, just with a smaller 6cm turbine housing. It will spool a little faster at the expense of topend flow

A 16G is just a bigger comp wheel in a TD-05 exhaust housing. You can get a TD-06 16G also. The letter on a Mitsu turbo stands for the comp wheel size, the TD-XX stands for the exhaust housing internal volume. B is for single fin (all the same size height) comp wheels, G is for dual fin (smaller in between). If you have an H, like TD-06H, that stands for Heavy, meaning heavy duty or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the side that makes construction equip for example.

But ultimately this combo will be better than a 14B correct??

Yes. And no you cant heli-coil them, you need to have it welded up and drilled/tapped as there isnt enough room to coil it.

I can port that 6cm housing so it flows like a 7cm :) Better yet, i may have one i can loan you and you can make your own decision.

Does this just take porting off the lip the 14B housing has on the inlet of the exhaust housing. ( inlet = the part that has the flange that mounts to the manifold )

Yeah you are basically porting the lip out of the turbine inlet. I don't think you'll be able to outflow a 7cm housing but 12 years ago the small 16G was most common. It was pretty rare that the car I worked on had an EVO III 16G.

Does the big 16 have the same exhaust housing as the small 16, Flow wise??

Maybe the small 16 has the 6cm exhaust housing....... Meaning i would just be taking the big 16 7cm housing off and replacing it with the 6cm housing and turning it into a small 16. If so i think i would be ok with that.

This car is not a race car but more of a quick street car. So nothing special is needed.

I'm running a small 16g with a ported 6cm^2 housing. I don't think I'm going to sacrifice that much top end. My car's a DD anyways, so I'd rather have the boost a bit sooner.

Ported as in removed the lip and opened the wastegate passage up a bit more.

You created a Big 16G with a 6cm turbine housing. A great turbo for quick spool and low-boost use; a bad idea for use above 18psi.

Not enough room? Do you have any clue what you're talking about? I HeliCoil the manifold and o2 housing mount holes on customer turbos on a regular basis. They leave the shop in 100% working order.

Drill them out, Tap them for a bigger bolt, call it a day.
You can do this, but it would most likely require the hole in the manifold to be drilled larger to accept the bigger bolt.

Any 16G sold new came with a 7cm turbine housing; so yes, the Small and Big 16G use the same turbine housing.

I've seen TD05H 20G's that came to my shop with 6cm housings on them....I don't know why anyone would want to do that, but they did. The point is it obviously worked, so unless you're in the mood to drill / tap / install HeliCoils, you can get away with using the 6cm housing on the Big 16G.

I could swear i had some more recent pics than the ones i took about 8 years ago. Ill see if i can dig one up to take a new pic of.

Step is removed, WG area opened up and outlet bell ported to 60mm,
