Hello everyone,

After doing some extensive research, I haven't really found the answer. Can anyone please tell me what the diameter of the inlet of the compressor housing is for the TD05H-20G? 3inch?

It has been very confusing because I keeping getting different results, etc. Is there a difference between the td05h and the td06h inlet diameter on the compressor housing, or the same? 3inch?

Also, is the td05h-20g basically the td06h compressor housing, put together with a td05h turbine housing?

I really appreciate the input. Thank you in advance.

(I apologize, I wanted to post this in the turbo tech section but wasn't allowed)

PM "jusmx141" on here. I haven't spent enough time measuring MHI turbo's but from my experience, a td05H 20g and td06h 20g are the same compressor wheel, different turbine wheels. All 20g compressor wheels are technically td06 wheels. There is no such wheel (that I'm aware of) as a td05 20g compressor wheel.

If your running the td06 20g compressor cover then yes it's 3". If your running a td05H cover (20g wheel in a 16g turbo compressor housing, then NO it's not a 3" inlet.

Thanks for the reply.

After doing some more digging, I came across this thread where a poster lists specs of certain turbos and the compressor inlet sizes.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/337052-20g-turbo-too-big.html

If you scroll down and see, you can see that the td05h-20g(td06 compressor mated to a td05h turbine) and even the standard td06h-20g both have a compressor inlet size of 2-1/4 inches, not 3 inches.

See what I mean confusing? LOL

It depends which 20G cover is used on the turbo. There are two available- both are considered a "TD06" compressor cover; the most common will have a 2-1/4" inlet:

Others will have the 3" inlet, especially those made by Greddy and some of the Forced Performance turbos (including most Frank 20G's):

The type of compressor cover has nothing to do with the size of the turbine inside. Another thing that should be noted is the cover with the 3" inlet has no provision on the front of the cover for an internal wastegate actuator to be mounted making it a bad choice for anyone using an internally-gated 20G.

My Frank 1 is an older one, around 99-00 i think, and it has the smaller inlet housing, but had a horn put on it to increase the inlet size.

Adding to this thread in response to this member's question.

Frank L1's use a 46-trim T04E compressor, which has a smaller inducer than a 20G....so a 20G cover cannot be used.

All Frank L1 and L2 turbos using the T04E46 compressor use a 17C cover machined to accept the 46-trim compressor because any factory-cut 20G cover would be to large.

Just a little additional info:

I have an ebay aluminum injen intake knock off. The inside diameter was the same size as my 16g. When I went to a 20g the inside diameter was too small and caused a restriction. I ported it out the intake - a LOT. The aluminum is a lot thinner but so far has not caused a problem.

Apologies for very dumb question, but...

Since I am going to order TD05H-20G turbo for my 1G DSM and making some serious modifications under the hood, then I still need to ask.

I know that 20G-s compressor wheel (inducer) is ~2" (52.5mm), and you are talking about inlet (2.25"), then question is: I need 2.25" hose for turbo - outer diameter??
I can`t decide between hoses.

Cover is 16G.

To specify what I am actually doing.

2G`s MAF is so stupidly oval (EVO-s are much better-round) and its outer diameter is 4". So I will buy, for MAF, 4" to 3" 45 degree reducer silicone coupler hose, about 1 feet long 3" aluminum ported pipe and 3" to 2.5" 45 degree reducer silicone hose (for turbo). Also building a airfilter box with cold air intake.
I think this kind of intake is much better than typical or original 2G-s intake hose or bare cone filter.

Also, buying ready turbo intake kit is much more expensive to me.
