ok I just bought a 99 gsx and it had a huge vacuum leak. After doing some investigating, I found out the evap canister was missing. So I bought an evap canister that came off a 95 gsx and I'm trying to figure out where the best place is to mount it? Because the canister is a bit too big to fit where the 98/99 canisters go(driver side front bumper).

Also where do those two vac lines running along the underside of the radiator plug in at on the canister?

Are you absolutely sure that yours is missing?

I ask because apparently some 98/99's have the charcoal canister located inside the gas tank and some don't. I'm not sure why that is.

daren p (a wiseman) who has a '98 told me this when I couldn't locate mine. But another wiseman with a '99 (turbosax2) has his where you mentioned under the driver's side front bumper.

yes I'm absolutely sure the canister is completely missing..

and I'm pretty sure I'm looking in the right place(drivers side front bumper). plus there's two open vac lines there that would normally be attached to the canister..

Gottcha.:)

If you can't make it fit in the stock location the only other area I can think of that may have enough space for it is under the battery tray where I believe the earlier 2G's had it mounted.

ok maybe I'll try mounting it under the batt tray then....

Though I'm still wondering what vac lines go into these two ports:

Your first step may be to complain to the jerk who sold you the car without telling you about the f*cking vacuum leak. :)

The 95-96 turbo EVAP canisters are mounted directly under the battery tray. There's a fuel vapor line from the tank (coming up in front of the firewall) that connects to the EVAP canister, and the canister outputs are controlled by a few check valves/solenoids and are connected either directly to the turbo intake hose or the throttle body (if memory serves).

Your best bet is to get a copy of the 95-96 service manual and duplicate how the EVAP system is hooked up.

The small vacuum connection that's coming off the "T" goes to your EVAP solenoid, which then goes to the throttle body's P port according to the FSM. Not sure about the big hose since the FSM isn't that clear on how the hoses are connected to the canister itself...
