OKK, so I rebuilt my motor for the first time and now up and running, withh an oil leak, and runs like crap. But anyways it leaks about a quart every 2 minutes...don't worry I didn't let it run that long! I replaced the front main, oil pump seal, and oil filter housing gasket. It looks like its coming out of the front main seal but it's hard to tell because there is oil all over the front case! I noticed that of the two bolts on the auto tensioner, the bolt on the left was covered in oil. Now, when I built the engine, the BSEK came with a full circle bearing a large and small freeze plug and the stub. The large freeze plug was installed behind the small one in the block which is in the top left corner...that plug was installed and then driven all the way through and then installed again into the block. Could that possibly be the oil leak?? Help guys!

Are you saying you pushed the plug for the front BS hole, past the front cover, and into the block? If so then yes, that's your leak. The bearings are to block the oil galleries from dumping all your oil pressure into the crankcase, and the expansion plug is to block the large hole in the front cover. If you leave it open, all your oil will dump onto your timing belt.

The freeze plug in the front case was installed once and then JB welded on there, like the pic. The Front bearing on the other picture is a giant freeze plug in my kit. It was installed and then I knocked it through to install the Rear bearing because I forgot that one. So since that freeze plug in the block was pushed through is it not holding the pressure even though I sealed it up with a thin coat of rtv?

oh yeah, I replaced both cam seals too even tho they looked fine...but im not sure about the o-ring on the oil pump, I didnt put one on that I remember and I dont know where It goes exactly..

Take that non mitsu stubby shaft out now if you want to keep your motor. That cheep nock off has no oil hole in it, it will kill your front case! You have been worned!

People have had problems with that stubby shaft. The recommended one looks like this.

If it's leaking oil that fast, you can probably see where it's leaking out of if you don't have the timing belt covers on.

Try to wipe everything off real good. Then start the car for about 15 seconds (if it's leaking as bad as you say). Turn the car off and look for oil leaks.

Also, did you port your oil pressure relief valve? If not, you'll probably have really high oil pressure. I did.

Just buy a mitsu stuby shaft and dont cut the stock one thats stuped. Come on dont go cheep on the hart of the motor I mean how long do you want your motor to last.

Is it possible to remove the front case without taking off the oil pan, xcase, and downpipe!? I'll be getting a mits stubby shaft then! Hah. So since the freeze plug has been driven throuugh one already is it useless and possibly my leak?

cant wait to take it all off again, looks like the machine shop did some touching up on the front case, what are the chances its cracked or warped...and yes I put a shorter bolt in where the BS pully went and RTV'd it also...Im going to start it up but not till thursday when its warmer and im off work, ill let u guys know....

...also I have ported out the OFH, instead of 100+ psi cold start I have about 70-75 psi cold, at 2-3k is that normal?...any idea why the oil is like a greenish?

These guys are right, this is what my BSE kit looks like. I would be scared to put that other stuff in there.

Ps. Green? Have you checked your water pump?

I ordered that BSEK from STM just waiting for it. Ya brand new water pump in there too. It might be just the left over from the dye I put in there an oil change ago

did you plug the hole with a shorter bolt? after removing the balance shaft tensioner pullie. if you didn't you will have a big leak.

Did you plug the hole circled in red? There should be a tensioner that sits over it, you cannot just bolt it in place or it will leak oil. Find a very, very short bolt and put a large washer over it, and screw it into that hole. That should fix your oil leak problem, and if it doesn't, it's not related to the Balance Shafts. Start checking everywhere on the motor, clean it all down, start it up, and go over it with a flashlight and find where it's coming from. An oil leak that big, you WILL be able to see exactly where it's coming from.

There is supposed to be a small rubber O-ring behind the castle plug.
It is #20 in the second pic I posted. But if oil is coming out as fast as you say it is, It has to be a BIG hole like the plug you put over the front balance shaft.

The machine shop put the castle plug in the case so I don't know for sure if they put the o-ring in there, im taking it off tomorrow...

I put a 20mm bolt (less than and inch below the head of the bolt) in the tensioner's spot along with RTV,
