I have 2 Question. I have about 4000 miles on my fully rebult motor and i was shaking the rods(all 4) on the crank and I can move them about maybe an 1/16in.... is that normal???

second, should the cylinder walls look like this. I'm thinking not.

I took the main caps off and all but one has some good groves in the bearing but the crank is fine. On the one closest to the pulleys looks like the crank wasn't seated on it all the way like its not shinny like one little spot of the bearing, Ill get pics here in a bit.

well ill check the rod bearing clearance, but what should i do about the C/W?

Hone the block or bore it and add oversize pistons. The walls show that excessive wear was taking place from some possibilities such as coolant, or oil drying up the cylinder walls, or the oil wasn't changed or maybe high rpm cold runs.

it is bored. it did have a blown HG but the walls were starting to look like this before that. oil was changed pretty frequently, high rpm run on cold run was sometime, i drove it pretty hard after 500miles

A couple of those bearings are definitly not looking to good. You definitly had some problems. Did you find any metal shavings in the oil pan?

Thats how you bearings look when I had a lot of gas in my oil and no oil cooler. I was so mad when I saw it because it was my jdm swap. I ruined the motor in less than 20 miles. :notgood:

You should plastic gauge those, I'm curious to know what the gapping was on those. It proablly wouldnt hurt to check your end play and what your rod caps are at also. Just so you know what your working with.

No, the crankshaft should not move. There are supposed to be .002 clearance between the bearings and the crank. You shouldn't be able to see the gap either. The crankshaft is likely to be ok if it didnt spin bearings. Show some pictures of the crank. I have a crank that did not spin bearing but it needs to be turned. My jdm crankshaft was still good after high boost, cold runs, no oil cooler, and gas in the oil.

I know the crank shouldn't move. I said i was shaking the rod. I have a 90 oil cool there is a slim possibility that there was gas in the oil. there was some chunks of silicon in the pan and thats it. Ill take the rod caps tomorrow. also the crank looks fine but ill get pics of that too

If the rods shake then it is likely that the bearings are spun out of place. I would say yes your right. theres garenteed to be gas in the oil. your cylinder walls should that the car had run really rich. My motor didnt look that bad. My friends motor had scores in the block and lost compression from running too rich. His didnt look as bad as yours. The new piston rings kept it going for a little while longer. The hone in the block should stay for a long, long time if they oil is changed on a regular basis.

so I should by new pistons???

i would get new pistons. You should probably go with a rebuild kit. Check out the ones on ebay. There are some for 400. You will have to see what they come with. I would recommend cleaning all of the oil holes, replacing the oil squirter crush washers, and get a kit with a new oil pump, along with the basic parts that you need.
