Anybody got something to hold the gauges into the pillar with a snug fit. I was thinking of gluing a very small piece of foam behind the guage but on the inside of the pillar to give it a tighter fit.

You can use electrical tape and wrap it around the gauge one or two times where it settles into the housing/pod. Should help snug it up a little. If it is still too loose add another strand or two.

This worked very well.

my gauges came with a backing and a nice plasic holder to keep the gauge in the pod they were auto meter. the best way to describe it is the gauge has two studs sticking out of it an u slide the gauge in place then put this peice over the stud an tighten it down with two nuts

I have that too. It didn't seem to help so I took it off and used the elec. tape.
