St. Catharines,
Hi i did a 6bolt head swap on my 2g. I notice that the 2g tensioner arm doesnt have very much room to travel when the auto tensioner is engaged, and locks against the 1g water pump, is this normal or is the water pump suppose to be modded?

yea i didnt think that through, i forgot the water pump bolts to the block so i would have a 7bolt housing. thanks.

If you simply changed the head, then you wouldn't have to mess with the mount or any brackets/bearings. Can you take a picture to clarify things a bit?

can anyone confirm that a 6bolt water pump will not bolt up to a 7bolt block.. heres the pic of the tenisoner arm, see the amount of clearence their is between the tensioner and arm and water pump. It barley has any room to move before its locked against the water pump housing, i was just wondering if this is normal. This engine was bought from some guy that had the wrong timing components on i just swaped them back to the correct ones and i noticed that their wasnt much room for the arm to travel once the auto tensioner pin is pulled, so i was wondering if its possible to bolt a 6bolt watet pump housing im causing problems. I just want to be positive since i just replaced 6intake valves.

A 6bolt waterpump wont working with a 7bolt block for this exact reason. Replace the pump with a 7bolt pump and all your lining up problems should be over. On a sidenote you used a 2g motor mount with a 6bolt tensioner arm right?

are you sure that a 6bolt pump can even bolt to a 7bolt engine? How can you tell this is not the correct pump? the mount is a 7bolt and the arm is a 7bolt

The 6bolt pump is way bigger than the 2g pump there is no way in hell that the holes on the 7bolt block will line up whith a 6bolt pump.
Here is a pic of my motor.i'm using a 6bolt block 2g head 2g motor mount if this helps any.
so you can see where the motor mount had to be cut a bit to clear the 1g water pump.

hmm i can see that, i had to grind my 97 mount down to fit, and my 7bolt timing cover hangs up on the water neck assembly where the pulleys go on the water pump, and the 97 style tensioner arm bottom out on one of the water pump bolts i had to grind down the back of the arm to clear. Thats why im kinda confused on why this is, unless i was running a 6bolt water pump. Are you positive that it cant bolt up?

heres the only pic i have of the engine before it went in, the mount on it was the one that came with the engine. Its prob to hard to tell just by looking at this pic.
