I was wondering I just purchased and recieved the eclipse 2gb bumper and the two ends beside the fog lights there are no vent covers, are those necessary or is it more of a personal choice to have. ??

No they are not necessary, purely up to you. I leave them off for two reasons. One, on passenger side opening, I have a tube from this opening running up to my filter for a cold air supply. Two, on the driver side, I have a tranny cooler mounted directly behind it.

Those covers only came on non turbos. They are left open because of the smic on the right and the other side is left open to match the right i guess. I personnaly don't like how they look anyways.

My car had a cover on the driver side. Only the left was uncovered.

Back when I was in high school (1997) my friend got a brand new 98 GS-T spyder for his 16th birthday. He was the first owner and his parents specially ordered it just for him. The mileage was still in the double digits. I was checking it out and noticed there was an air vent cover on both sides. It was in fact a GS-T, I checked the motor. I'm in no way contesting that only the nonturbo models came with the covers but this was a very strange happening. I guess somehow the factory screwed up and put the wrong front end on or something. I wonder if anyone else has seen this.

Funny you say that, about a month after I got my car i was at the gas station and another eclipse was right behind me. His was looking nice and had both of the covers on though. I asked him if it was a turbo and he said yes and showed me his clean engine bay. I then asked him about the cover and he said that he had never done anything to the car as far as putting or removing any of the covers. I showed him my car and how the smic is there but he said that mine was just missing that part so maybe some did come like that.... who knows.

Here is the story of the covers. On the passenger side, you have your SMIC. Of course you can't have a cover for that. Now, on an automatic, we have a transmission cooler on the drivers side. No cover for automatics. Hope that clears it up.
