Alright so i pulled the motor to do a little work and i wana go buy new rings soon but im confused and this probly sounds very noob, but stock bore should be 85 mm ? so i measured mine just diameter wise and it was 87 mm ? did i just make a fool out of my self or is this previously bord out?

These measurements have to be precise....you can't just hold a ruler up there and guess it to be 87mm. A full 87mm bore would be .080" over, which is unheard of.

If the pistons appear stock, it's a good possibility that your car has never been touched. I always check the cylinder walls for straightness by measuring ring end gap at three locations....the top, middle, and bottom of the cylinder. If the ring end gap ranges greatly in all three locations, then you'll need to have the block bored to the next larger size.

Keep in mind that overboring an engine is normally only done to straighten out the cylinders. Anyone who thinks boring their engine .020" over is going to make a noticeable increase in power doesn't have their head on straight (no pun intended)!

Have your machine shop measure the bore when you send them the block for honing/cleaning.

You would need a cylinder bore gauge to check for taper and roundness of your cylinders. If you are getting help from a professional, he should have access to one. Like I said though, it may be better to have your friend do it, or at least have him there to watch :)

ya haha my buddy is my dad hmm i know he has the honer but im not sure about the guage. He might have lent it out to one of his friends what would one look like? maby i can scope it out some were in his garage

There are several different versions, but it should look somewhat like this.
