hi guys i have an 1993 eclipse gsx, butg the ECU fried, friend of mine is selling me a 1992 ecu but i have adoubt if it work in my car, of course is a manual transmission turbo, i have the numbers, the 1992 is MD166262, and the 1993 thta is bad is MD193299, thank you very much if you can help me..

Yeah it should work no problem if the '92 ecu is in working order. Their both turbo manual so they are both programmed the same.

it will work fine, as far as i know the only year that is stuck with that year ecu is 1990 (unless u change ptu, coils, etc), 91-94 use the same ecu.

Thought same thing till I read somewhere that some can be picky. The stick them with a certain part number, and some will only take that ECU with the same number... Can't remember where I saw it at, but it never bothered me I just shoved one in that worked when mine fried..

You won't have any problems running a MD166262 in place of a MD193299.
Both are Federal Turbo AWD 5 speed ECUs. You would have issues if the replacement was a 90 or 94. The 90 because the IPS and MAF reset signals changed pins and the 94 because they switched to California style emissions on the 94's.

yes guy it works perfect i tryed and is ruuning in good condition thank you very much for your experience and advice..

I as well have a MD193299 that went bad in my 93 gsx. I heard that you cannot use a different number ECM in place of another. Is this false? I am too looking for a new ECM and it would help me a lot if I could use a different numbered ECM, because I cannot find any MD193299 for sale online. So you guys are saying I can use a MD166262 in place of my old one? Are there any other known numbers that will work in place of the MD193299? thanks

I already answered this. I don't see how saying it again is going to make it clearer or get you to believe me if you didn't the first time.

Or maybe if you felt like helping a noobie out, being a senior member that you are, you would see that I asked if there were perhaps another ECM number that would work other than the one that you had said, any information would be helpful. Are you usually rude to everyone you talk to or did I catch you in a bad mood?

While it's not spelled out in detail it's indirectly answered by what was posted.

Since there are only 90, 91/92, 93 and 94 ECUs and besides the changes in pinouts a good 90 ECU is getting hard to come by and like I said the 94 ECUs changed to California style emissions, that leaves either the MD166262 from the 91/92 cars or the MD193299.

You can use the Federal MT FWD turbo ECUs as well and won't likely notice any difference but there are differences. You can use a Turbo EPROM ECU from any of the 1G turbo cars by changing the software.

Sorry if you find me rude, I'll make a note not to bother you with any of my answers in the future.

what about a MD166255?

unnecessary, I'm sure you're full of useful information. I just don't understand why you have to respond like that. and "bother me with your answers" really? what bothered me is that you didn't bother to even say an answer, but instead belittle me. I really don't care that much, its just another forum where respect apparently doesn't mean much. Are most senior members this way? just waiting to pounce on that new unsuspecting member just trying to find out a little info :(

what about a MD166255?

Earlier in this thread is a link to a cross reference list by year and key parameters.

In several of the postings in this thread and in 100's of others on the site I've made it clear you need a turbo ECU for a turbo car. If you use that link and look up the MD166255 you find it isn't a turbo ECU, so while it will start the car driving around on it has a high risk of killing your engine.
